Virgos Groove
The report in question: Quote Jeremy Corbyn is in talks with four other independent MPs to form a new group, potentially boosting their influence in Parliament. Six independent MPs were elected at the 2024 general election - the most in modern history – including the former Labour leader. Quote Mr Corbyn and Mr Adam have been talking to fellow independents Ayoub Khan, Adnan Hussain and Iqbal Mohamed to explore options on how they can impact policy more effectively. All five beat Labour candidates in July's election with their pro-Palestine stance in Labour-supporting constituencies with large Muslim populations. IBeMe
The Bernie Sanders of the UK tbh That said, I wonder if this is actually counter productive. For once the labour party seems to be sort of leaning to a more progressive agenda because of the influence of independent candidates who signalled to the party that much of the labour party voters want a more liberal and progressive agenda so it seems like it'd be more beneficial to simply influence the labour party even more and work on pushing it even more progressive rather than starting from scratch. What that will do is simply have all the progressives vote for this party and then it'd be a toss up between Torys (conservatives) and labour which will go back to be being more center right instead of what it is now which is properly center (not center left just yet but it'd be best to work on pushing it to center left instead of giving up on it and then having it retract closer to center right). This would ultimately only benefit the right wingers because then they'd have two parties vying for their vote and the progressives would have an influential party but def more of a niche party that won't ever win elections. Gelato
labour is definitely too far gone now under starmer and especially reeves. i vote green now and i think it would be best for the labour left to make the switch to them, but i'll watch how any new group/party develops with interest

Virgos Groove
Jeremy Corbyn to form alliance with four independent pro-Gaza MPs Quote Promising to fight austerity and campaign on issues including the winter fuel allowance, the two-child benefit limit and arms sales to Israel, the group also explicitly invited MPs to join them, a reference to seven rebel Labour MPs suspended by the party for voting to axe the two-child benefit cap. Quote "Millions of people are crying out for a real alternative to austerity, inequality and war – and their voices deserve to be heard. As individuals we were voted by our constituents to represent their concerns in parliament on these matters, and more, and we believe that as a collective group we can carry on doing this with greater effect. Quote The Independent Alliance will not be a political party but the grouping said it had formed so that the five MPs were allocated more parliamentary time to ask questions and speak in debates – operating in effect as a political party without a leader.
