KATSEYE as an idea is really interesting, but at times I don't fully understand the execution. The imagery... the style choices... I thought the idea was to make a global girl group... not to take girls from all over the world, and simply k-popify them. They all are so different, yet their music and visuals are so non-representative of that.

I definitely had the same feeling but considering that they were formed on a show that was a collaboration between an American record label and a Kpop company, I'm not surprised that they were molded after the same formula used for Kpop groups.

It's such a shame because then the girls are looked at as a knock off Kpop gg instead of a group consisting of 6 talented and beautiful girls who come from different backgrounds joining together to make their dreams come true.

That Debut performance is how loud their mics should be all the time.

It actually makes groups sound worse when they try to blend real voices with such loud tracks.

Same :ahh:

I listen to SOME k pop, but this has me hooked a bit now.

Im really curious how much longevity they'll have though.  Great that they debuted on Korean countdown shows this week. :clap3:  But traditionally aren't K-Pop audiences pretty…selective (shall we say), especially when it comes to non-Koreans in their market?

They're almost positioning Manon as the focal point of the group (at least in their choreo)…which I think it's interesting.

And their music is too K-Pop-esque to appeal to Western Pop radio/audiences, imo.  So I wonder how they're measuring their success??

i wonder about this too

they're having a really nice moment right now due to the netflix show and Touch being a cute hit, i see them all over my feeds BUT the majority of it comes from accounts who already follow kpop. I'm wondering if they're actually gonna try to give them a solid push in the US or just keep them mainly in Korea where they already have appeal. the US could really use a good girl group, it's been wayyy too long. I know 'global group' was the original idea but so far they're only marketing them in kpop adjacent spaces

Im kinda shocked that Sophia or Yoonchie doesnt have the most following seeing that the group is being marketed more to their audience. Daniela having the lowest is criminal. She is one of my fav. That dance practice video when they were all wearing white.. she devoured!

!!!!

I suspect they will, but they need the right single.  Most of their stuff is very K-Pop esque.  I bet it's hard getting the right song to resonate with both Eastern and Western audiences.  But if they get it right…it'll be a huge win.

putting my pretend manager cap on for a sec

I think what they SHOULD do is focus on asia right now and get a 2nd EP (more US friendly) ready for early 2025 and start pushing them here. they need something like a 'greedy' type of song, a little urban pop PCD type of moment for the US (lbr the Buttons dance video is a bigger slay than their actual music videos), i think that could push them.

I hope Hybe doesn't fumble the bag with them. Touch is having a cute moment. They should keep promoting it and preparing a new mini for Jan/Feb
