Or was it something else Ireland is probably the most pro-Palestine country in Europe since their history is somewhat similar to what's happening between Palestine and Israel.
Gelato Posted August 12 Posted August 12 they're right but they're also two of the least powerful countries in Europe so nothing much will happen
Hurem Posted August 12 Posted August 12 With UK and Germany not wanting to budge an inch, nothing is going to happen unfortunately. 5 1

Simon Harris is speaking specifically about the EU's relationship so the UK doesn't really play a factor in here but yes it's definitely Germany. Our previous prime minister hinted at a few EU countries essentially blocking progress on recognising Palestine and condemning Israel. My guesses are Germany/Austria/Hungary and maybe Netherlands. Even though Ireland has consistently held the anti-genocide stance, I've never actually seen our govt make such a clear statement of dissatisfaction and questioning the relationship before.

pisuke Posted August 12 Posted August 12 -Stop all relationships with the criminal state. Incarecerate all israeli diplomats and ambassadors. -Recognize Palestine as the only legal state. -Confiscate all assets from Israel and israeli citizens in Europe. Only the israeli citizens living in Europe that condemn their country actions and agree to the dissolution of Israel will be allowed to keep their properties and money and become legal citizens of the european country they were living in. -With the money made by confiscating it and by selling former israeli assets, help the Palestinians. -Germany, above the rest, must publicly apologize for their part in all of this. Past and present. 1 2 2 3 5
Arthoe Posted August 12 Posted August 12 For the first time EVER my local CONSERVATIVE German news paper has criticized the continued occupation and attacks on Gaza as "horrendous" and "shocking". Europe and its well connected media circus has began moving, because it's increasingly more likely that Kamala Harris will become the next US president and that she is willing to listen to Pro-Palestinian protestors and make some concessions to them. The foreign policy of the entirety of Europe is largely dependant on what the doctrine of foreign policy by the US government is. We're seeing in real time how the media is manufacturing consent for an actually reasonable, critical approach to Israel. I'm lowkey seeing parallels to how protestors in the US made Obama move on marriage equality right before/just after Obama became president. Not gonna lie, for the first time in a long time, I feel like there's actually some hope.

Not to dismiss your other comments, but Obama didn't move on marriage equality until 2012 while he was running for re-election. — OT: It's taken long enough. Hopefully more of the western powers begin to accept the reality of the situation and make the appropriate moves to end it. (I'm extremely doubtful, though.)
