NoOneDiesFromLove Posted August 11 Posted August 11 If you're okay with the various potential side effects and long recovery then you should go for it Spoiler Not me though, Final Destination 5 taught me well and I look cute with glasses
Vespertine Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I did SMILE last August. It's similar to LASIK but with a much, much smaller incision (though it's not appropriate for everyone depending on your vision). Because the incision is smaller, it's supposed to reduce halo and dry eye issues and better maintain the integrity of your cornea. I'm so glad I did it. Changed my life! I was back at the gym two days later (with the proper eyewear). Nighttime halos were gone maybe two months later. I stopped using eye drops in May. If you're at all concerned, READ all the reviews for your specific doctor. Anytime I've seen someone regret laser eye surgery, if you push them for more details, they probably went to a shitty surgeon in a suburban strip mall who offers a "both eyes for $2000!!!!" deal. I paid $6500 for a very good surgeon and it was worth every penny. Also make sure you look into other options like PRK in case they might be more appropriate for you. 1
Badgalbriel Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I had it done 2 years ago. Felt nothing but a headache for 2 days. Best decision of my life. 1
Sannie Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I did, yes. It was the best decision I've ever made. Of course there are complications that some people may experience, but millions upon million upon millions of people have had this surgery successfully and it's been life-changing. The scare tactics are small numbers of people who have had negative experiences and blowing them up to act like they're bigger than they actually are. When you have a procedure of any kind, it is on you to decide whether or not you're willing to take the risks. if there is a complication, that's not necessarily the fault of the surgery, some people just are more sensitive things. Before I had surgery, I had to watch multiple videos about the surgery, how it works, and the potential side effects. They were very, very clear about what could happen, but then also made sure to note that the side effects were rare. The argument that eye doctors don't have Lasik is total bullshit. There are tons of eye doctors who have had Lasik eye surgery. Not everybody is eligible for Lasik, and not everybody wants Lasik. As mentioned, there are tons of doctors who smoke, drink, or engage in risky activities, but it doesn't mean that something is bad. 2

Look it up if you don't know. "the halos and glare you see after LASIK will not go away for about two to three weeks. However, it is common for you to see the halos and glare for a month after the LASIK surgery or possibly even longer than this" Yes, this is a common side effect that typically goes away after a few months. I had this for a few months and then it stopped. —— The surgery itself is incredibly simple and very fast. It took less than two minutes overall. The first step involves having eye numbing drops put into your eyes, and then this suction cup type thing put over your eyes. The suction cup thing is so your eyes don't move as the machines do the work. The first machine is responsible for creating the flap over your cornea. That flap has to be made because then the second machine is when the doctor will pull back that flap to expose your raw cornea, and then the laser will sort of etch away at your cornea to fix your vision. Once that machine is done, the doctor will then push that flat back into place which then will seal itself and then you're done. basically what the laser machine does is it reshapes your cornea so that when light enters your cornea it enters in a way so that you can see clearly. It's basically reshaping your cornea to act as a pair of glasses since glasses also changes the way light enters your cornea. 2
305 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Never doing it. I've heard too many horror stories to not want to get it done, also Final Destination.

I've been radicalized on tiktok to be afraid of this procedure due to testimonials from patients who have unexplained persistent burning eye pain that even drove that one news anchor to suicide You see a lot of eye doctors and surgeons wearing glasses themselves. Ask why tbh If this is merely to get rid of the hassle of wearing or glasses or contacts ask if its worth such a risk So I'm not the only one on LASIK TikTok I'm also terrified of it/will never do it after seeing videos about ppl w permanent nerve pain

I'm not sure that I want to risk it. I'm so scared of the eye pain that a lot of people seem to develop a few months/years after getting Lasik. Makes me so scared tbh
Jotham Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I've never had a problem with glasses or contacts so I've never considered it in the first place, but the negative experiences I've heard about it are horrendous. I understand that the vast majority of people who do LASIK don't regret it, but the few that do seem to have such huge regrets that I do not think it's worth the risk. I even remember reading about someone who had so much regret after her surgery that she ended up taking her own life.
Fevesy Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) I did it in 2021 here in the UK with Optical Express - Mine was LASEK instead of LASIK just because of my eyes conditions so I had way more pain and discomfort than you normally would if you are getting LASIK. It cost me £5000 for both my eyes (so £2500 each) and the surgery itself was honestly like 10 seconds per eye for me, more time setting up in the chair than the actual laser itself. You don't feel anything at all with all the stuff they put in your eyes and honestly I was just pissed off I paid that much money for 20 seconds of surgery You do smell the burning of flesh afterwards but you'll likely get out of there quickly enough. I don't think I have any issues with my eyes (yet), maybe some slight sensitivity in some scenarios where it's super bright but that is rare. I'm so glad I did it because I remember simply walking to work a week after my surgery without glasses and contacts looking at the sky and greenery and that memory will stay with me forever. I'm glad I just went for it kind of impulsively instead of digging around too much on social media about it because it would have scared me with all the stuff wrote about it. I'm actually getting mine done at the exact same place, but i'm getting LASIK iDesign. They seem really good so far.
Cheers Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Idk.. i'm conflicted. I want Lasik too Everyone IRL that I know that has had it done has 0 complaints but I see SO MANY horrifying stories online

Yeah I got the LASEK iDesign, you'll likely on the day do a proper scan of your eye with some fancy machine and it gets sent to the machine that does the surgery. I also had to sit in a waiting room for an hour listening to the same Love Island stars talk about their laser eye surgery on a TV on repeat so I hope you don't have to go through the same torture and all goes well!
katara Posted August 13 Posted August 13 No I am EXTREMELY sensitive in the eyes. Like even applying eye drops is a HUGE struggle to me. Imagine someone putting their fingers in my eyes and putting that metal thing to keep my eyes open, then having my eyes BURNED by a laser while you have to look at a spot focused. I would prolly die of a panic attack or the procedure would go horribly wrong coz I would move my eyes in all directions LOL Thanks I'll stick to my glasses.
