Vixen Eyes Posted August 9 Posted August 9 4 minutes ago, Reginald said: Speculation among the crew is that Phoenix's exit had to do with the graphic nature of the film's sex scenes. But that theory is confusing to some sources, who reiterate that it was Phoenix who brought the project — and its NC-17 concept — to Haynes in the first place. Haynes told Variety in September 2023 that the film started with "fragments of ideas" from Phoenix, which the director formulated into "an actual narrative" before bringing Raymond on board. "Basically it was just this wonderful, organic way to create the script," Haynes said. "And Joaquin was pushing it further into more dangerous territory, sexually. Interesting i think (after reading this + the OP) that JP just wanted to write a homoerotic fanfic wattpad style lol 3

Any negative publicity for Phoenix reflects poorly on her in the coming months would this movie even be ready before Oscars season?

Komet Posted August 9 Posted August 9 This is so ??? something major must've happened, this makes no sense 1
GAGAxMONSTER Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Ugh. You'd think GaGa's masculine facial features would have prepared him for this. 12 3 1
touch Posted August 9 Posted August 9 This was our only chance to see Danny Ramirez playing a gay character 1
Uncatena Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I'm left wondering, with how the director said they were going into "dangerous places, sexually" and pushing the NC-17 raring just how explicit this movie was going to be and how involved the actors were preparing to be. 1

So the salaried crew lost their jobs because a multimillionaire celebrity decided he didn't want to do the role he had been paid and contractually signed to do? They should sue his ass. 9
period sis Posted August 9 Posted August 9 It was likely another situation of writing and fantasizing about gay sex was easier than actually acting on it. More reason to just cast an actual queer dude if you knew there was any chance you wouldn't be down for it 5

Johnny Jacobs Posted August 10 Posted August 10 What a loser. So many people now out of jobs because he thinks it's about him 2

Saintlor Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Yeah straight actors see LGBT roles as an easy way to get awards and don't care about LGBT people It's the same with how people view playing characters with mental health problems 4

Braz Posted August 10 Posted August 10 They better sue him for all the Joker 2 money he got. You don't treat Todd Haynes like this, trashbag.

Without him they are gone and their money too. interestingly, another example of this is Can You Ever Forgive Me. Julianne Moore left a week before filming b/c she and the director/writer had issues (July 2015). That took a year to be put together again, with a new lead and a new director. Filming started January 2017. Maybe we'll see in a year if they can put together another package for funding.
