So just re-cast his character instead of throwing away the whole production and firing the crew?

they lost millions and probably won't find any more funding without a big star attached

Beyond stupid. You knew what you signed up for. Now a whole crew can't go to work and God knows how hard it is to find a job in that field.

Another erratic man taken over by toxic masculinity.

His role cannot be recast? Sure, like there's not a ton of gay actors who would love to get the part.

He was the reason the film was financed. If he isn't attached, the money is gone.

Didn't he sign a contract? I think the director and producers could sue him

He knew what the film was about. Idiot

What a disappointment. :clack:

Something else has to be going on other than having "cold feet" because it's weird af to back out literally 5 days before filming even if he wasn't into it at that point. That's a lot of money to lose and I'm sure other actors have been in the position to not wanna film a movie for various reasons but when you're that close to filming they would just do it and get it over with.

I hope he's okay.

There's probably more to the story. Maybe his promo for the upcoming Joker movie or somethin or a change in the direction for the whole project

At least we can get someone hot next to Danny Ramirez this time

There's more to the story, clearly.

He's 100% an LGBT ally.

I don't think there's anything to suggest that the reason he dropped out was anything to do with it being a gay themed movie so not sure what those posts are all about, but either way dropping out five days before production begins is wild

No one wanted to see him in a graphic sex scenes role anyway :rip:

Speculation among the crew is that Phoenix's exit had to do with the graphic nature of the film's sex scenes. But that theory is confusing to some sources, who reiterate that it was Phoenix who brought the project — and its NC-17 concept — to Haynes in the first place.

Haynes told Variety in September 2023 that the film started with "fragments of ideas" from Phoenix, which the director formulated into "an actual narrative" before bringing Raymond on board.

"Basically it was just this wonderful, organic way to create the script," Haynes said. "And Joaquin was pushing it further into more dangerous territory, sexually.

That wasn't very Born this way of him tbh :sistrens: However, I'm wondering what is the reason behind his leaving. I'm not buying the cold feet excuse :foxaylove2:

Anonymous sources are reporting that Gaga pressured him to give up this role so as to not taint her chances of winning an Oscar for the Joker film. Any negative publicity for Phoenix reflects poorly on her in the coming months
