LovaticSwiftie Posted October 25 Author Posted October 25 (edited) As someone who adores her and loves her debut, Unapologetically (in my Top5 all time favorite albums) and Kelsea, this feels underwhelming tbh. A lot of the new songs, but especially the ballads, sound like demos, melodywise not strong and pretty middle of the road. How Much Do You Love Me for example would've been an incredible big power ballad. When she sings "If the meteor hits", it feels like a wasted opportunity to not bring in all these instruments and build the song up. I always feel like she's afraid that her voice is not strong enough for big power ballads, but I would love for her to do songs like Carrie's Backsliding, See You Again or Starts With Goodbye or Martina McBride's Where Would You Be. Also not really a strong upbeat song on the album. She has so many incredible unreleased songs she shared snippets from, so this feels underwhelming. Expected more tbh. Miles. Posted October 25 Posted October 25 There's some good stuff on here (Patterns, Baggage, We Broke Up, Wait, Cowboys Cry Too) but I miss the days of big catchy hooks. Everything here feels like a stripped down diary entry.
rockettoast Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Penthouse or Blindsided >>> this album. The EP was so good and in my top played songs for 2023...she needs to deliver that sound. We Broke Up gets close. 1
Buffy Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Kelsea hasn't been good since Unapologetically, but even that album was pretty watered down. I listened to a lot of her unreleased music and could tell she's farrrr more capable of a songwriter. Her demos sound exactly like Taylor's earlier days. I've had a suspicion these last several years she's been trying to distance/breakaway from the Taylor sound. It was most obvious when her fans and Swifties really wanted Roses to be a single because how much it sounded like Taylor. She chose to release Miss Me More instead, and whatever else. I haven't kept up because her music started going downhill from there. Maybe she didn't like the Taylor comparisons, but that's what made her music great!! I loved the lyrics and the hooks. She's got none of that going for her now. Edited October 26 by Buffy
Mdawg Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I loved Rolling Up The Welcome Mat and Penthouse was my #2 on Spotify Wrapped but none of these songs are hitting...overall just uninteresting especially lyrically? So many cliches that just made me recall more clever turns of phrase in Kacey or Taylor or even Julia Michaels songs on the same topics. I also noticed several uses of that "group chanting" production in an attempt to inject some energy but they never felt like something a crowd would naturally scream along to...I fear for the arena tour to be honest lol, no one beyond the diehard Ballerinas (?) is going to know these songs 1

Tbh, it's her best officially released song and I'm still pissed it hasn't been a single and nothing came close to it from her other albums. Same with Get Over Yourself.
Gabe² Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I don't love the singles so far i loved the EP and STC is her best album and favorite so far, I've liked all her albums with the debut being the least liked, she has no bad project hope this album is as good but just worried I haven't connected to the main singles 2
Dylan' Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I loved Subject to Change and the Welcome Mat EP had me thinking this album would be insane. But I gotta agree that this is underwhelming sonically and lyrically. She also hasn't had a legitimate hit in so long so I'm not hopeful about future single performances. 1
Maneater Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I like the album but my biggest issue with her songs is that they never really go anywhere or have a climax. Baggage is my fav and could've had such a good bridge but it falls so flat
Nashe Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I love the album! Especially: Baggage We Broke Up Beg For Your Love How Much Do You Love Me First Rodeo (that bridge, helloooo??) I'm glad she didn't go all happy on us and stayed more in the RUTWM sonic space with a shift towards a brighter sound, even though her personal life seems to be in a much better place recently!
Nashe Posted October 29 Posted October 29 This Time Last Year Deep Two Things revealed themselves as pearls aswell. I'm so in love with the album
Nashe Posted October 29 Posted October 29 there's a digital exclusive track called "To The Men Who Love Women After Heartbreak" on her website
Nashe Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Predicted to debut at #4 with 55K !! Highest position ever and best first week sales of her career! 1
Nashe Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Quote Kelsea Ballerini's Patterns bows at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, marking her highest-charting album ever and second top 10-charting set. It arrives with 54,000 equivalent album units earned — her best week by units. Of that sum, album sales comprise 35,000 (her second-largest sales week), SEA units comprise 19,000 and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. Ballerini had previously gone as high as No. 7 on the Billboard 200 with Unapologetically in 2017. The new album was preceded by the song "Cowboys Cry Too," with Noah Kahan, which reached the top 20 on the Hot Country Songs chart in July. The set's first-week sales were encouraged by its availability across eight vinyl variants (including one signed edition), three digital download editions (a standard set, one with bonus commentary tracks and one with two bonus song tracks), and two CDs (including one signed variant). Her vinyl sales totaled 12,000 for the week — Ballerini's best week ever on vinyl. She's officially here for the long run
pinkbowvintage Posted November 5 Posted November 5 (edited) On first listen, I liked the title track...but today it just HIT me out of nowhere. Wow. This album is so gorgeous. I definitely prefer SUBJECT TO CHANGE and the godly WELCOME MAT EPs so far (and I love all her music), but it's growing on me. Edited November 5 by pinkbowvintage
