These labels only think about short-term profits but real talent needs to develop themselves to really make a big impact, and sometimes that takes a few years and some underperforming. Oh well. Julia will probably find a better label easily. It's not the same situation. Julia had success at first then flopped into oblivion. Her last album barely cracked the Billboard 200 1

bielneira Posted August 6 Posted August 6 This makes me wonder why Universal never dropped Lorde, but deep down we all know why. 1

Bosque Posted August 6 Posted August 6 The royalties will keep her afloat. I'm sorry to say but I kind of get it, if she hasn't made it by now, the chances are very low...
Jukebox Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I love a lot of her songs but I must admit she did much better as a songwriter. It's a shame but hopefully she can just slip back into that. Surely Selena must be recording a new album
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 I don't think she loves to be a singer as much as she loves writing. I mean she always seemed so nervous being on the spotlight and I can see that being reflected on her mental illness considering how she reacts and acts in social media sometimes, anyway I think she's fine being independent since she will always get those royalties and also always will have the connections to get signed by another label if she writes another big hit.

Taylor fanboy Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Wish her the best! What era did she apparently wrote with Taylor @wastedpotential? Was it reputa?

Bewitched Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Why do y'all always assume when an artist goes independent it automatically means the label dropped them for "flopping"? It could've been a mutual agreement to end her contract.
milliondoses Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Makes sense... Charlie Walk reeled her in at Republic but he was pushed out during MeToo revelations, so no one there was really vouching for her. Her new subscription stuff doesn't interest me but good way to make coin as an independent artist

Because she has said herself that she had a certain number of albums type of deal and she was heavily controlled with her releases lately because they wanted a hit.

Considering all her songs on emails are the ones that didn't connect with the general public I see why Sabrina didn't worked with her
Solgayleo Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Is her songwriting/publishing deal still going, or was she dropped for that too?
glitch Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Random but I just went on her Spotify page and her albums page is so weird, like 50 different versions of some soundtrack in different languages
