JGibson Posted August 5 Posted August 5 This thread features the happenings of the 2024-25 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, 17-game/18-week regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl over the San Francisco 49ers to repeat as Super Bowl champs. DT Aaron Donald, QB Matt Ryan, and C Jason Kelce are the most notable retired players. RB O.J. Simpson died this year. He is most infamously known for the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman instead of his football prowess. Key media changes: - Netflix will stream two Christmas Day games. - Venu Sports is scheduled to launch this fall, and it will include the sports-airing networks owned by Fox, Disney, and WBD, such as ESPN, SEC Network, BTN, TNT, Fox, and FS1. - Tom Brady begins his Fox broadcast career, paired with Kevin Burkhardt on the network's #1 NFL on Fox team. - Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason depart CBS's The NFL Today. Key rule changes: - A coach can now be awarded a 3rd challenge if either of their first two challenges are successful. - Kickoffs will continue to be conducted from the kicking team's 35-yard line, but with major changes: all members of the kicking team except the kicker must line up on the receiving team's 40-yard line, and at least 9 of the receiving team between their own 35 and 30. - A kickoff must land in the "landing zone", aka the area between the receiving team's 20 and the end zone. - Onside kicks can be attempted in the 4th quarter if trailing. No more surprise onside kicks. - The trade deadline has been moved from Week 8 to Week 9. Resources: NFL.com Standings (NFL.com) Schedules (NFL.com) ESPN.com (NFL) Yahoo!
