M. Night Shyamalan's Trap Is Psycho at a Taylor Swift Concert

Quote

Shyamalan pitched Trap as setting The Silence of the Lambs (1991) at a Taylor Swift concert, in reference to her Eras Tour, and wrote the screenplay in five-and-a-half months. (...)

Saleka says that Swift's "Eras" tour was frequently invoked on the set of Trap, and although Hartnett didn't get around to taking his own daughters until last month, the actor said that his own "Eras" experience vindicated the movie's portrayal of an arena filled with ecstatic, almost delirious and largely female fans. (...) Although Lady Raven's concert is a comparatively modest affair—the "Eras" tour's budget has been estimated at more than $100 million, several times the cost for all of Trap—Shyamalan emulates several characteristic details, include outfitting the audience with light-up wristbands and a sequence staged around the equivalent of a lucky concertgoer being given the "22 hat." Riley even sports a friendship bracelet in some shots, although Lady Raven's fans seem less inclined to trade them.

It came out a few hours ago in North America. Now available in a theater near your!

I keep getting told Taylor is not culturally significant so imagine my shock when I realized the entire plot of a movie is based on her record-breaking tour!

M. Night made this movie just to promote his daughter's music. Apparently they play several of her songs in their entirely in the movie. :rip:

The royalties would've been the entire budget of the movie my good sis

Reading the reviews and people seem disappointed  but that's not new for Shamylan these days

That is exactly what it is. Basically an extended music video for his daughter. Josh Hartnett was great but everything else was dogshit.

The singer was off-key. It makes sense now.

The film sprouted from conversations Shyamalan had with his daughter, singer-songwriter Saleka, about combining the concert and theatrical experience and devising an album for a narrative, similar to how Prince wrote the titular album for the 1984 musical film Purple Rain.

:coffee2:

they're just using her name for clicks.

The entire plot?

Although, if the FBI wants to weed out truly dangerous psychopaths, they probably should set up sting operations at the Eras shows.

M hasn't made a decent movie in 20 years. I find it weird he still slaps his name all over the promotions. At this point I feel like it only hurts the movie more than it helps.
