I think it's worth mentioning that this isn't the first time MyKayla's mouth has gotten her in trouble. She has an entire "controversies" section on her Wikipedia page

The stupid comments weren't directed at Simone, they were directed at her teammates. So Simone isn't defending herself here, she's batting for her teammates.

 

And obviously Simone has haters, but this is an ex teammate, I think that's the difference.
