What's the point of a group if they just break up?

I agree, also there must be a correlation between groups and live performances, the later becoming less and less relevant in recent years as a platform for promotion.

Not shocking. Most of the biggest groups of the last 40 or so years were either really good singers or had very good performers. vocalists and dancers are hardly on trend with the current musical climate. There's a reason most of these groups tend to thrive over in Asia. They still enjoy the novelty and performance aspect. It's "Too Corny" for a lot of people in the west now. 

 

Also, Lazy performers thriving in the 2010's kind of killed groups off. And so did R&B's decline in the early 10's
