Alanis has a song on her 2004 smash album which is called "Excuses". Check it out.

There's nothing about what i said that was a lie. Madonna DIDN'T have a record label that pushed for her discography and you damn well know it :rip:

It's definitively one of the most spectacular comebacks of all time, that's for sure. Queen of Pop for a reason :clap3:

The Madonna people are very fickle when it comes to excuses.

For 100 years it was like: Mariah has features... that's bad. Madonna does features = that's amazing.

2) Mariah released a 10 track album = lol at the streaming. Madonna releases a shorter album = her streams are only lower bc there are less tracks on it, duh!!!

3) When Mariah is ahead of streaming overall = xmas fad. + better playlisting???

4) When Madonna is ahead = demand and globalness.

Being obtuse is a choice.

Madonna was almost 50 and managed to pull off such a remarkable comeback era in a time when women in music and pop culture were seen as disposable once they hit 30 :clap3:

No ones making excuses. At the end of the day Madonna reigns supreme, and remains the most influential, iconic and bigger artist of the two due to her worldwide classics, epic tours, and generally being a trailblazer.  She also broke down so many barriers for woman, as well as advocating for the queer community at a time when it wasn't cool.

Mariah is known worldwide (mostly) for her Christmas ditty, and there's no shame in that, so embrace it. :foxaylove2:

Facts can't be erased, no matter how many daily streaming lists you throw at us.

If it wasn't for me being a stan of pop girlies I wouldn't have thought Madonna was decreasing A LOT in popularity before Hung Up, she had MATM with Britney, Hollywood, American Life, Music... it's not like she was at the bottom of the barrel like Mariah or Britney before Circus.

I actually think Mariah's comeback meant way more than Madonna's and makes it more spectacular, but COAFD was bigger n more successful worldwide without a doubt.

So TEOM only pulls 500k daily streams?

You would think the way the Mariah fans gush about it being such a success that it would perform a lit bit better, don't you think?

Look at how all these pop girl albums perform on a daily basis:

Now compare that to the Emancipation of Mimi.

This just proves Mariah has a better team and better playlisting than Madonna though.

Madonna also didn't have record label until 3 years ago which is when her numbers started to get better. No one was pushing for her catalog in any streaming service.

(also...12 songs vs 18 i think)

Stop with this fan fiction please. Her numbers never got better. Spotify grew, not her numbers. In fact, most of this year's daily numbers without popular had her below 3m which actually puts her back to her 2019 average. So no, her streams never got better. I hate to say it here but it's true :michael:

Well popular didn't achieve its numbers thanks to her, right? So if we ignore recently released feature with the weeknd, her daily average was on pair with her average in 2019, I wouldn't call that 'getting better'

Now, I'm not sure what Mariah's daily average is today in 2024, but back in 2019 they were pretty much on pair, both of them doing 2,7m-2,9m

Yes, let's pretend The Weeknd hasn't slowly but surely been losing popularity for a few years now.

Let's pretend his terrible song from the #1 smash hit movie, Avatar 2 didn't completely and utterly bomb.

Let's pretend Madonna's montly Spotify listeners didn't jump from 18M to 28m after Sic's Frozen remix went viral, before Popular came out.

Do these trolls even know The Weeknd's follow up 5 singles (after his collaboration with Madonna) wasn't as successful?

Mariah fluctuated and depends on viral tracks on tik tok. There was a time when she got to 4 million streams daily last year and earlier this year... but that has faded. Much like Madonna, Mariah is also on the same level as 2019/20. The  overall catalogue increases are almost non-existant... maybe 3-5% annually which is smaller than the average spotify gain.

His follow up single One of the girls is actually at 1,077b.

But Mariah's viral songs kept their streams like Obsessed for example. Madonna's most viral song Material Girl for example can fall even as low as 200k per day.

Ok, so I'm gonna say "thanks to him teaming up with global legend on the previous single".:rip: See how that works?

No, because your post makes no sense. If Madonna had any power in making Popular hit, her latest singles would've been up there with its numbers.

Popular is Weeknd's only 27th biggest song on Spotify, it's Madonna's #1 by a mile, and she will never top it with any new or old song. It will remain her biggest song on streaming.

If Madonna was the driving factor of Popular, then surely Vulgar should also be at 600m at the very least and not at 25m.

the word global and the phrasing is so misleading.. as if Mariah didn't have success in Europe, South America or Asia.

Mariah is the only female recording artist - dead or alive - who has sold more than 30 million albums in 3 continents. (according to chartsmasters). How is that not global when she's the only one?

Madonna is the only female recording artist - dead or alive - who has sold more than 12 million albums in 4 continents. (according to chartsmasters).

What latest singles? She hasn't released anything since "Vulgar" with Sam Smith, and that was god awful. You can't entirely place the blame on her for it's lack of chart success considering Sam's previous singles (bar Unholy) flopped. Everything Madonna released in the 20s (before Popular) were mostly bad remixes, and Madame X (which spawned at least one charting single) was in 2019. Mariah's hasn't done any better either (if you discount the Christmas bop). and Caution wasn't interesting, nor successful either and the GP agreed considering the album and singles bombed.. Say what you like about MX, but at least she attempted something different, and it was bigger.

Not you referencing chartmasters - a well known Madonna detractor who plays down her numbers and inflates other artists. :rip:

Caution is not only more acclaimed and fan favorite album, but it also charted 1 week longer on B200. MX was saved by tour bundles, without them her first week sales would've been below Caution's.

Caution also has 4 solo songs over 10m, 3 of them over 20m. MX has ONE song over 10m at 11,7m.

Lowest streamed song on Caution has 5,2m streams while on MX 3,9m That also shows you how much people listened to those 2 albums in full.

Let it go. Madonna is not more successful than Mariah anymore.

"Fan favourite". No doubt the same fans that enjoyed Glitter and Charmbracelet. :rip:

and I'd rather have an album chart at #2 than #5, whether it be inflated by tour bundles or not.

No matter how far the Queen of Pop has fallen, she's never been reduced to playing to empty venues like this before:

Caution had 8k from SPS despite having only 10 tracks and no features, while MX only had 5k from SPS with 15 tracks and 100 features including popular ones like 2 with Maluma, Anitta, that Migos guy...

But let me tell you that both albums in the end sold the same in US despite MX having tour bundle :lmao:

And now you're running to tours despite us talking about streaming in the first place. But since you wanna go there, Mariah's touring power is actually increasing (doing 3 MSQ in last 2 years), while Madonna's decreasing. TCT, her first GH tour and first arena tour in almost a decade performed on pair with RHT that was considered weak back in 2015. Makes you think about it....
