Zendaya furious towards Sam Levinson for focusing on THE IDOL, complained to HBO CEOs

I don't think that member was trying to degrade Zendaya and they're right.

Sam Levinson is putting the blame on her for supposedly wanting to focus on her movie career (which is what she should be doing btw. She is having a big moment in her career that any actor would take advantage of) even though Jacob and Sydney have 6+ projects in the work each. That creep is being weird towards Zendaya yet again.

I was agreeing with @BOOMBAYAH - let me edit to be more clear!!

She should just move on from Euphoria honestly, she is the star of the show and it won't do nearly as well without her. Sam Levinson shows aren't all that anyway, very focused on shock value imo.

He can do whatever he wants, including make a flop project. He is the writer. You have no reason to complain if you are just an actor.

Sydney and Jacob have been in like x5 more projects than Zendaya since Euphoria S2 wrapped lol, this seems like a smear campaign.

IMDB tells me her only upcoming project (that we know of) is Euphoria Season 3.

She is obviously willing and ready to film. Sam wasn't.

Blaming the WOC lead actress for something she had no control over is nasty work.

That's actually not true, hbo had a bunch of complaints about the original script and especially the production value being far below even the minimum standard. I have seen pictures of the original sets and costumes, it all looks terrible. Sam was the one who improved the visual aesthetic of the show and convinced Abel to take a lead role despite his acting inexperience and rewrote the script to include more sex scenes to make it more like Euphoria. Basically Sam was called in by hbo to bring some order to the chaos and he ended up changing the show in unforseen ways. People overstate how controversial the show actually is because of that hit piece full of lies from Rolling Stone, I was expecting something controversial and just got bored pretty quickly

The Idol was a letdown, not as bad as some people say though if you understand what it was actually going for. The good thing to come out of the show was the soundtrack, I am still bumpig those now.  Honestly just might be for the best if they were to scrap Euphoria season 3, it had it's moment but has been going downhill for awhile

i've seen the sets and concepts from the original series as well and it didn't NEED to look like euphoria. it made sense in its context because she was an ex-act. those sets were supposed to be her in her kiddy preteen hannah montana era before she decided to become "risque".  And the piece from rolling stone wasn't "full of lies" lol....they cut OUT a LOT of content after critics viewings were largely negative. that's what resulted in the show becoming the mess it was and why it made no sense. I watched the whole thing, you can tell. And yeah it was horribly bad. It should've been scrapped.

Abel was a BIG part of retooling the show. you're putting this all on sam's shoulders but abel was out there on twitter using clips from the show to sarcastically reply to the article and double down on its content. HBO didn't call sam in, ABEL did. there is a deadline article that even mentions that ABEL, not HBO, thought it "focused too much on a female perspective." and deadline is an OFFICIAL hollywood press site, not rumors and gossip.  you also cannot claim abel was only a bystander to these changes when he ended up getting a "CREATED BY" credit. note that this is different from drake's producer credit for euphoria in which he IS a bystander to the creative decisions, and isn't involved in its creation. you only see him promoting the show, not trying to star in it :rip: abel couldve just sat there and read his lines provided by Amy Siemetz and the series would've been WAY more well recieved.

Zendaya is an executive producer. she has just as much say as Sam.

Between the end of Season 2-now:

  • Zendaya, Jacob, Sydney, and Hunter have all exponentially increased their fame and done tons of other projects (some of which are WAY bigger than Euphoria)
  • Fan favorite Barbie Ferreira has been iced out by Sam and had her character ruined + basically written out of the show
  • A beloved cast member with an increasingly significant role in the show passed away (Angus Cloud)
  • Major characters (Jules, Cassie) were written as complete parodies of themselves, took a nosedive in likability, and abandoned the feel and growth of their Season 1 plots
  • The Idol was a PANNED BOMB and tanked a lot of Sam's "credibility"
  • Multiple plot holes and unresolved conflicts (Rue with the suitcase...?)
  • ...over 2 years and they haven't even gotten Season 3 started

I am not going to derail this conversation into an unrelated topic but there is so much rumor and speculation around this subject, it's hard to know exactly what went down. Abels creative role in the show was mostly around his own acting role and the soundtrack. He had very little to do with the script and HBO was unhappy about the original concept of the show because none of the characters were developed outside of Jocelyn which partially explains the retool, it was not just Abel who had this opinion. I also think it's fair to say that this show was being marketed towards a hate watch anyway, peoples minds were made up before they saw it. I ignored the discourse and watched it without being told what to think, the show is just kinda predictable and boring, it is not especially controversial or twisted. It was just marketed that way and so I was left feeling letdown

I am personally of the opinion that this show was not going to be very good with or without the changes because the plot is not all that interesting and Tedros is not a very interesting antagonist. Oh well, at least I got a great soundtrack out of it all

Might as well cancel it at this point. It should've ended after the two special episodes in early 2021 to be honest, season 2 contributed to absolutely nothing.

Both shows are trash, you would think it would take less time to develop such terrible and cringe shows.

I dont like zendaya. I think she's a subpar actress and doesnt have emotional range... she's basically a version of MJ in every role so far. She doesnt have it and sounds like she's overpaid and overhyped since Challengers was a huge underperformance. Twitter hype means nothing where are her fans ? I like representation and all but we have better actresses of color like the girls from swarm and them. 2 emmys.really ?

I really still like the Idol and hoping someday somehow it gets a second season.

Well Jacob is a flop now and Sydney already stated she's excited for S3 so there's not really anyone relevant left to cause delays since Zendaya seems to just want to finish it

This wouldn't be a problem if he had a writers room.

TV auteurs that are against rooms (Levinson, Sheridan) are a detriment to their own vision. Euphoria sucks anyway, but the fact it's taking you forever maybe you need a room.

wth are you talking about, zendaya is mad at the writer and unlike you she has brains not to be mad at the stars of the show

She should be grateful that she has a serious career now thanks to this show, before that she was the Disney girl + MJ panned role in Spidey.

Also at this point Sidney and Jacob are bigger than her.

Hot Tea, the lead actresses from 'Them' and 'Swarm' were amazing and both shows deserved more recognition.

The Idol was actually a really good show and not that different from what happens in the industry. I guess the industry wasn't ready for the dark secrets to come out.
