Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - Hardly Ever Smile (Without You): well this was an immediate surprise, the strings were beautiful tbh, it was too long though
Odd Posted August 7 Posted August 7 The Cranberries - Sunday i really want to like this but I'm neutral about it love her voice though
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Diana Ross - It's Your Move: omg woah it's that one vaporware sample aksjflksa. That caught me so off guard but cool. This is groovy and fun I like it
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 The Sundays - You're Not the Only One I Know: every time we have one of these pre 2000s rounds you force me to listen to this type of 90s pop rock and I don't think it will ever be my thing
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Toni Braxton - Love Affair: like a lot of her songs I feel like her voice is really carrying, the song itself is just ok but she sounds great and very emotive
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 ABBA - If It Wasn't for the Nights: I think this was sent before in ASC or something and I actually really enjoyed it then and I still enjoy it now! ABBA is very like music your mom dances to when she's wine drunk and I think there's a charm to that, which sometimes annoys me but here it's great
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Slowdive - When the Sun Hits: So sorry Uvie but this shoe gaze 90s rock sound just does not speak to me… this was almost unlistenable for me
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Selena - El Chico del Apartamento 512: it's definitely a Selena song, not what I'd normally be bumping but I appreciate it for what it is! It's fun and I'm not mad. Queen
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 TLC - Kick Your Game: this beat with the low register vocals is soooo seductive, this stands out and it's pretty amazing this came out before 1995, they were really ahead of their time. Love it
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Cocteau Twins - Cherry-Coloured Funk: every time we have one of these pre 2000s rounds you force me to listen to this type of 90s pop rock and I don't think it will ever be my thing [2] this was better than the Sundays though the high vocals were interesting
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 The Cardigans - Celia Inside: really like the guitar work on this one, but in general I wanted it to go somewhere bigger
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 The Bangles - Some Dreams Come True: extremely cheesy and I'm kind of gagged someone would send the Bangles akkjdflsf but it's fine, I liked the bridge
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Sade - Like a Tattoo: This wasn't exciting or interesting but it was pretty, I would play this in the background as I got a massage
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Portishead - Roads: oh well yes I love Portishead, I wanted to send them but was worried about sending their album tracks. But yes this song is cool and they were pioneers in this space
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Paula Abdul - Rock House: I don't love it but it's fun and I bet she would perform this well with her dancing and stuff…. but idk honestly it's annoying me the longer I listen adkjfls I don't think I like it sorry
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 SWV - It's About Time: Weak is one of my favorite songs of all time, tbh I've never listened to anything else by them but this is really nice, yes it has that classic R&B feel and their voices are so bright and warm, I'm a fan, wish a little more happened but it's good
Kelp Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Stevie Wonder - Knocks Me Off My Feet: wow his voice is just a beacon, like the riffs at the end are immaculate, I love his hits and this one is great too, a big success with me!!
Odd Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Prince - Erotic City funky track, but would def get repetitive after awhile
Kyuti Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Sade - Cherry Pie Why she whispering in my ear like that?? I'm sorta kinda falling asleep the longer it goes on and this ***** 6 minutes like omg...
electrahard Posted August 7 Posted August 7 (edited) a nervewracking round for electrahard.... POiSON GiRL FRiEND - Hardly Ever Smile (Without You) : This was a mellow ambient serve... Diana Ross - It's Your Move : this is cute... off to a slow start I see... The Sundays - You're Not the Only One I Know : i like this, but the whole time i kept thinking it was that one song that that got popular on TikTok Toni Braxton - Love Affair : OH this is a major good stand out compared to the prior songs. ABBA - If It Wasn't for the Nights : loved the first 20 seconds of this song, but it was false advertising... their voices were so grating in parts of this. There were definitely some redeemable parts! Slowdive - When the Sun Hits: this is pretty cool, it reminded me of beach house which i loved Selena - El Chico del Apartamento 512: this instrumental is like so corny it's distracting, but the lyrics are very cute TLC - Kick Your Game : this is cute, kind of whelming Cocteau Twins - Cherry-Coloured Funk : ethereal serve The Cardigans - Celia Inside : this song is so cute it reminded me a lot of animal crossing! The Bangles - Some Dreams Come True: this is like the white version of Proud Mary... Proud Madge... okkkaaaayyyy!! Sade - Like a Tattoo : wow this song is gorgeous 10/10 Portishead - Roads : oh this was good too, very sensual production Paula Abdul - Rock House : did you really send this LOL SWV - It's About Time : this is cute! honestly liked it way more than I thought it would Stevie Wonder - Knocks Me Off My Feet : this song is sooooo good woah, I love it Edited August 7 by electrahard
Odd Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Stevie Wonder - Summer Soft beautiful song, can't go wrong with stevie
Rotunda Posted August 7 Posted August 7 HARDLY EVER SMILE Starting this round with a 7 minute song is insane but I liked all the elements
Galah Posted August 7 Posted August 7 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - "HARDLY EVER SMILE(without you)" hmm, the interesting stylization of the artist's name and song title gave me hope that this would be a bit of an innovative, ahead-of-its-time masterpiece... but it ended up being a pretty run-of-the-mill song for this era. like if you said this was by an artist called amy sanders for the dawson's creek soundtrack i wouldn't bat an eye... it's pleasant enough tho, but wish it was about half as long
