nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Group B Critiques Chappell Roan - Coffee I enjoyed this! I've still yet to listen to the album in full but this is definitely my favorite of the bunch that I've heard so far. Very pretty. 4/5
nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Janet Jackson - What About The entire soundscape behind this is mesmerizing - feels like a movie and really elevates the story being told. I prefer the somber verses to the more hectic chorus but overall an extremely captivating cut from this immaculate album. 4/5
nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Dua Lipa - These Walls Not a favorite from this album no matter how many times I hear it and I was really quite surprised to see some people pushing HARD for it to be a single. It's fine, maybe even good but far from great and just kinda gets lost in the mix. 3/5
nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Frou Frou - Flicks A little yawn-inducing at certain moments but I'm always here for this sound. 3/5
nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) Lana Del Rey - High By the Beach Lana will always be very hit or miss with me - it's closer to the latter on this one. 3/5 Edited August 12 by nostalgic
nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Kacey Musgraves - Space Cowboy I may have shed a few tears, yes. 5/5

ATRL Moderator Element Posted August 12 ATRL Moderator Posted August 12 ELEMENT'S REVIEWS Shaznay Lewis - Got to Let Go There's POTENTIAL here. The chorus is begging to burst into something more memorable. Ultimately, I feel a bit let down by the song. Her voice is nice though! Zabawa - Butterfly's Repose zzz Ashley Tisdale - It's Alright, It's OK AMAZING SONG. I wish I had thought of it! I've loved it since it came out. Frou Frou - Let Go The production is enjoyable. It's not something that I would return to, but I can appreciate the swelling, effervescent atmosphere. Beabadoobee - Take a Bite A solid pop rock song. I feel like I've heard this melody somewhere else before, but it's not coming to me!! Victoria Monét - Alright Banger! It's so sexy and fresh. She changed lives with the first lyric of this btw. Alemeda - Guy's Girl Delicious tasty etc. I just discovered this like 2 months ago and it's really well composed. Nice melody, nice instrumentation, and a slight edge. Great pick! Kali Uchis - Solita I don't listen to Kali too often, so this is pretty new to me! I like this a lot. The chorus is catchy and I'm vibing Björk - Black Lake A Bjork fan... I am not. I will say that this is one of her more approachable offerings. Does the length need to be 10 minutes? No. I wish there was a melodic switch-up at some point in the song. That would really help to keep your attention. Carole King - It's Too Late Nice! Very zen listen. Chlöe - Boy Bye Some may say they didn't like this genre shift from Chlöe, but I think she did it well. It's a fun summery bop -- nothing too complex, but it doesn't need to be. Sabrina Carpenter - Feather Another catchy and fun bop. Kind of deserved to be a top 10 hit... KATSEYE - Touch Okayyyy this was actually really cute SZA - Kill Bill A modern classic. If you don't like it... get real.
nostalgic Posted August 12 Posted August 12 hemlocke springs - sever the blight I remember this being sent during ASC's comeback round. I loved it then and gave it a high ranking, and my love for it has only grown over time. It's actually a feat to make a song this short sound so good with such high replay value. I'm glad to see it pop up again, it's something special. 5/5
Alldeezy Posted August 12 Posted August 12 GROUP B ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Chappell Roan - Coffee ~ when I went to give this album a listen this was a SKIP this coffee is better Spoiler ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Janet Jackson - What About ~ Janet always tends to start off mid then get's really good a minute in! WAIT this was the song I was I love with during song contest game. dw I thought it was another rocky Janet to add to my list ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Dua Lipa - These Walls ~ I forgot about this song because I think I only listen to Happy For You on repeat whenever I play this album it's okay this one wasn't a highlight from this album ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Frou Frou - Flicks ~ going from never hearing about this girl before and her having 2 songs in this round I like this one too let me save her album to listen to later ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Lana Del Rey - High By the Beach ~ All I wanna do is get high by the beach Get high by the beach, get high All I wanna do is get by by the beach Get by, baby, baby, bye bye ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Kacey Musgraves - Space Cowboy ~ Too country for my liking ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Hemlocke Springs - Sever the Blight ~ The vocals almost lost me but that beat won me ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Maggie Rogers - Alaska ~ idk the big deal with Maggie Rogers ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Jhené Aiko - Jukai ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Brandy - Have You Ever ~ Oh that just isn't good ◁ ❚❚ ▷ SZA - Far ~ it's alright. ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Keyshia Cole - Let It Go ~ cute little 2000s hit ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Kali Uchis - I Wish You Roses ~ ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Taylor Swift - White Horse ~ Never thought Taylor would save that boring run of songs. This is probably one of my all time Favouite Taylor country songs and i'm glad you sent the OG one because the TV one kinda ruined it. ◁ ❚❚ ▷ Tkay Maidza - Out of Luck ~ Almost sent this during song contest. I LOVE this song as Tkay & Lolo Fan OOF Winning Songs: What About, Out Of Luck xoxo 1
Kelp Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Chappell Roan - Coffee: her ballads don't have a lot of replay value to me but when I put them on they are enjoyable and good, her voice sounds lovely here Janet Jackson - What About: hmm I haven't heard this before and this is certainly not bad but I think I prefer her groovier songs, sadly this is a pass for me. It's cool how ambitious it is Dua Lipa - These Walls: idk why but like Dua Lipa just hits right in these games for me IDK IDK! Her songs always have energy and good production. I mean maybe not the most interesting but it's a nice pop song that hits all the right marks, the production in the post chorus was cool Frou Frou - Flicks: Are we still doing that thing where we send Imogen/Frou Frou when we run out of ideas and want to be safe hehe. Well as we know (if you know me) I love Imogen/Frou, this is not THE standout track for them but it's still really great, the synth design in this song is really spectacular imo like the timbres and the pitch bending ooh it's delicious. Actually the more this goes on the more I love it Lana Del Rey - High By the Beach: Ok….. this is very like, VL entry. This is probably her worst hit imo, this is around when I started feeling like she was becoming a parody of herself. If the production is simple, the melody is simple, and the lyrics are simple, then… it's simple. Kacey Musgraves - Space Cowboy: I don't think I pee for this song like a lot of other people do, but it's still nice. Kacey has a nice bright tone that cuts through the reverb of this song and it feels very epic, although I do think that the ending could be even bigger Hemlocke Springs - Sever the Blight: I do love Hemlocke, this is one of my least favorite songs by her tbh akslfjklsa sorry but it's still good! Like the other people said it has really great levels and twists and turns, I just wish the melody was more enjoyable to me, but you know what it's good I still like it! Maybe I was too hard on it before Maggie Rogers - Alaska: Her voice sounds nice, the production is glossy, it felt like when the beat came in it was still kind of restrained I would have liked it to be a little more dynamic, maybe like some strings or a less sine-y pad, but it's still fairly nice Jhené Aiko - Jukai: I did really like OLLA in ASC surprisingly because I always thought I was a Jhene Aiko anti until then. This is also nicer than her other stuff I've heard, it really didn't go anywhere though it was kind of background music but pretty background music! Brandy - Have You Ever: As Lemur fans know Brandy has one of my favorite vocal tones in all of music. However even that still doesn't really do enough to carry this really basic and simple R&B ballad aksjdlfas like this is quite an inspired choice for her. Sorry SZA - Far: I didn't really like this album as much as CTRL, this song isn't bad but it doesn't really stand out for me, nothing about it is especially notable Keyshia Cole - Let It Go: Omg after a few really sleepy songs in a row this woke me back up so nicely! I had fun listening to it, head bopping, not as good as the peaks of this playlist but still good! Kali Uchis - I Wish You Roses: At first I didn't really get this brilliance of this song but as time passed I started to really adore the reverb-filled backdrop of the instrumental and the message is really impactful I feel. This was the album where I started to love Kali Taylor Swift - White Horse: okay maybe it's nostalgia talking but the draggings of this song are overkill alksjfklasd. I mean it's cutesy for what it is, I'm picturing some white girl riding her favorite horse at her mom's estate listening to this with one earbud in thinking of Tyler from Algebra II class in 2010 Tkay Maidza - Out of Luck: I do like it! It's a cute pop song with lively production, reminds me a lot of ASC music. I kind of unstanned Tkay after I saw her live and she was terrible, but I still spin her music on streaming
MusicLoverDude Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I mean Janet is singing about domestic violence and abusive relationships. Of course it isn't going to be groovy.
