Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Slowdive - When the Sun Hits I'm a shoegaze enjoyer and you can't do no wrong with Slowdive so…
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Selena - El Chico del Apartamento 512 I have never could got into any Latin genre that sounds like cumbia and **** and for me Selena has never been THAT girl despite being an undeniable legend so I'm sorry to not be that Latina girl to support you x
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 TLC - Kick Your Game Old school but so fresh at the same time. TLC always knew how to deliver a Crazy Sexy Cool song indeed. Good job!!
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Cocteau Twins - Cherry-Coloured Funk A very safe choice tbh but it's my favorite song by them and it's so emotional and intense and trippy ugh
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 The Cardigans - Celia Inside This is so Sunday morning coded which is a vibe that it's right up my alley to be honest. So sweet and unique entry to be honest!
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 The Bangles - Some Dreams Come True so corny and cheesy I'm screaming. This sounds like a song that would be put in the intro of a flop, panned and forgotten coming of age movie from the 00's
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Sade - Like a Tattoo Her voice and aura have always been so exquisite x one of my faves so far x
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Portishead - Roads Love love this song and always have. Never thought this wasn't a single to be honest so I'm so angry that I didn't thought on this one tbh
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Paula Abdul - Rock House this started so fun, seemed to be a fun dance bop but the rock elements make the song very mid to be honest. I mean there's a great track on here but it was lost with some production choices.
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 SWV - It's About Time I'm not so sure about this one. I mean it's not bad at all but it's kind of same-y and I'm sure I have listened to a lot of songs that sounds like this one. But at least the lead singer SERVED vocals so I'll give her that.
Julia Fox Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Stevie Wonder - Knocks Me Off My Feet this is so so pretty but it's not my kind of thing to be honest. But his voice blended with all the instrumentation is so smooth and exquisite ugh. So I will be ranking it very well only for that
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b cherry pie - its definitely a Sade song... and I don't mean that in a shady way, its just not really my thing or at least I have to be in the specific mood for this style of music I guess. not the worst thing but eh, I don't think I'll be giving it a super high placement. rambling a bit but overall not bad, just not my thing
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b the cranberries - sunday I was looking into them for this round but opted out... this was pretty cool!! definitely my vibe, I liked the chorus and her vocals
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b Diana ross - tenderness meh, I feel like the "pop girl" albums of the time had a strong divide between singles and non-singles in terms of how well they hit. this is kind of boring
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b prince - erotic city now this is a classic. big fan of his 80s albums, this is has some solid aspects of Prince as an artist I think! feels like a hidden gem, I liked it
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b Stevie wonder - summer soft I like the way this builds, it's got a good groove/funk to it, and his voice is really nice. the key changes are very subtle but energizing. cool hidden bop!
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b tlc - case of the fake people its a classic album yup this is solid, the singles are obviously the best parts of this but overall I like basically every track including this
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b jody Watley - always and forever never heard of this song or artist so yay new rec. this is definitely an early 90s song not a drag though, just funny how well this captures that age in pop music it has chill vibes, but I would say it goes on a bit too long... I prob wouldn't listen to this again but I might explore some of her hit singles
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b liz phair - **** and run my WINNER!!! I wanted to send off this album but i was too afraid that it'd flop.. but yeah this is a huge classic album and every song is amazing. a pioneer in so many ways :itstru: also just in general I love this particular style of female grunge/riot-adjacent stuff from the 90s... ugh this is perfect
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b billy Joel - zanzibar oh wow I absolutely HATE this voice LJKSDFJLKS, this is very very anti-ho
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b Sinead o'connor - drink before the war ohhh interesting, I actually haven't listened to her music much before. this is not what I was expecting tbh. this feels like an influence on artists we're familiar with like Weyes Blood. I think its pretty cool, not my fave in the playlist but solid
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b bee gees - more than a woman I don't really listen disco and stuff honestly so bear with me. I would ... not listen to this willingly but I would say the chorus is pretty nice!! this might be in the middle of my rank
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b Aaliyah - im so into you her first album is solid and underrated I like this a lot, it definitely laid the groundwork for her style and persona
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b anri - shyness boy its fine, I wouldn't listen again. not a big fan of this city pop stuff
smholiv Posted August 7 Posted August 7 group b stacey q - love or desire this is fun! its pretty addictive. her voice feels very modern? idk
