And clearly she is not since you're talking about her.

Janet's not forgotten, her legacy just isn't celebrated like it should be. She should be celebrated far more loudly and abundantly than she is. She's undeniably a legend and an icon, which people realize, but it's all understated—by even her, herself. I think she's comfortable where she is, personally, being that she's always had a shy and reserved demeanor. If she wanted to appear and be larger than life, she knows what it would take. She has the hits and legacy for it; I just don't think that's what she's about as an artist or as a person.

Nah, She has hits! She just hasn't capitalized on her legacy as she should. She could hire a team to help her songs appeared in movies and series and add them to playlists of the 80s, 90s and 00s. And she could also do a feat with some new artists like Madonna and Mariah are doing these days, that would help young people recognize her as a legend. But I don't know if she wants to do it or she is happy like everthing is right now.

She was just never a global force

Thats not true

Look the audience members, she was not Madonna level but she was a force. She was very know. Control made her a icon in all the world.

I think Janet Jackson's music hasn't really had a lasting commercial impact but culturally it will always have value because every young R&B singer that comes out isn't afraid to directly reference her as someone they got musical, visual and artistic influence from.

History will always be kind to Janet because of what she represented and was able to create at her peak. not everyone is always going to be "relevant" but some figures don't have to be because they're actually iconic by definition.

Who are these friends? Honestly i am not shocked, the OP is a specialist at downgrading black females achievements and legacies. To answer your question, NO. I was just hanging out with some «friends » recently and we were having this conversation about 80s/90s popstars and they knew every Janet reference you could think of. It all depends, who your friends are and specially their ideology in life.
