Taylor Swift thanks fans for making TTPD #1 for 12 weeks: "I'm completely blown away"

I wish she did this more for one of her best albums like 1989 tv or red tv instead of this weak album of hers. Now those albums deserved 10+ variants.

The way I can just tell she has a list of other artists' chart records that she wants to break (and then act surprised when/if she does) :rip:

Like she conveniently stopped the discounts in her 13th week when she knew there was no chance of beating Eminem but did everything in her power to beat Whitney's record - if it happened organically it would be way less cringe

Didn't we already do this whole "she's so fake, why does she act shocked at her success/awards/acclaim" episode way back in the 2009-2013 era? It was a big criticism of her in the Fearless, Speak Now, and Red eras when she'd be super shocked at award shows.

Her longevity is so unprecedented that we are literally recycling criticisms against her that have gone recurrent before :ahh:

Blown away doesn't have to mean shocked or surprised, guys. And even if she does mean it in that context, she's allowed to feel that way — there's no guarantee the fans would support her album, whether she was dropping variants some weeks or not. There were weeks she didn't release any variants and the album still remained at #1, plus plenty of weeks the album would've been #1 with streaming alone, no variants needed. So the achievement is worth celebrating.

Plus, It would be greedy and ungrateful if she -didn't- thank and acknowledge the record + the people that helped achieve it.

Yes let's ignore she would've been #1 on 10 of those weeks with streaming alone :suburban:

This is what very "clever" people miss.. her streaming numbers were huge..

She could be #1 for 200 weeks and still have zero impact. THAT is what is truly impressive :clap3:

She ruined her reputation in the industry for this achievement

She should've just kept the 2.5m debut and take whatever organic weeks at #1 she was meant to have

She would've looked x1000 times better than the way she looks now

TTPD will forever have a major " * " tied next to it's commercial performance

People will never let it go

Honestly no, she has always been chart obsessed but this era got overshadowed by these tactics and from the album not being good

Any era were she pulled these tricks would've been tainted in the same way

The industry is other artists, peers and credibility across the board

Im sure execs are happy with these extremely capitalistic tactics

But a lot of the respect she had was thrown to the trash

Not her acting "blown away" that it remained at #1 for 12 weeks when she was releasing 90928387373 new variants everyday :suburban:

It's giving someone who buys themselves a present for Christmas and then acts surprised that there's something under the Christmas tree.

We've been told these exact. same. things. when she used Pizza boxes to sell more copies of 'RED', when she sold polaroids for '1989', magazines for 'reputation', diaries for 'Lover', strategic signed CD drops for 'folklore', 39cent discounts for "willow" and digital variants for 'Midnights'… and none of it had any negative impact on her career or her standing in the industry. Literally no one outside of stans cares about this.

She used the fact that her fans would buy every single **** from her and now she acts surprised her fans actually bought every single **** from her?

It's not tracking it that's the issue - it's the way it's being done.

As someone else said, releasing 34 variants and then celebrating it is like giving yourself a Xmas present and acting surprised when it's under the tree.

If that floats your boat so be it.

Releasing multiple variants doesn’t mean people will buy them. Plenty of artists release multiple variants and fail to maintain the same amount of success. It’s not a given. It still takes her fans to buy them in that case which is why she’s thanking them. It’s not that confusing or convoluted.

Regardless, if she didn’t thank her fans y’all would probably say she took it all for granted and would complain that she’s entitled.
