Fortnight: What went wrong?

The song became a hit largely thanks to the massive hype surround her popularity peak. The song topped the Hot 100 for 2 weeks, but it spent just 5 weeks inside the Top 10.

This represented an underperformance compared to her latest almost-consecutive smashes "Anti-Hero" and "Cruel Summer". The former, by the way, marked Taylor's official return to mainstream radio success after several attempts that could not click with GP (her latest being "Delicate" in 2018, back then).

Currently, "Fortnight" is freefalling like there's no tomorrow on Pop radio. In fact, today it received the most horrendous update in a single day on the chart's history in which it lost almost 1000 spins in one day (982 spins to be exact), which surpasses Joji's "Glimpse of Us" previous -932 drop.

(-1) Fortnight: 8654 (-982) | 17.215 (-2.068) :deadvision:

Did Taylor make a mistake choosing this song as a lead single? Or do you think there is no better hit material on the album?

The song is mid. Doesn't sound like a hit. And that's ok. Cruel Summer is also still going strong after 5 years.

It simply isn't smash material. I LOVE the song and I still don't blame her for picking it to represent the project but it we were talking in terms of commercial potential, it's obvious songs like Down Bad or Guilty As Sin? would have performed better.

They're pushing the second single now so of course it's going to "free fall" s:wan:

The song isn't bad but it kinda lacks replay value after a few spins. It lacks production wise tho

Also, the drop on radio is because the second single was just released

They pulled the plug for ICDIWABH, she has way too much going on radio rotation right now with those 2, Cruel Summer and radio still having Anti-Hero highly played.

Pretty bland. I was expecting another Cardigan.

It's kinda the weirdest and most illogical single choice of her career. Feels like they picked it just because Post is on there for 25 seconds. :rip:

It just wasn't what people wanted, especially for the summer with songs like espresso trending, they wanted cruel summer 2.0. The song is so good though and I kind of understand why she picked it for the lead, its melody is super infectious and while listening to TTPD for the first time I was very meh about it but I found myself constantly going back to it over and over again after a couple listens. Guilty as sin probably had the biggest chance of being successful but ICDIWABH is not a bad single choice either.

It's a great song but doesn't sound like a smash hit at all, especially in the 2024 soundscape. Deserved Anti-Hero's success for sure.

Radio obviously played it simply because it's Taylor, and now they're dropping it like a rock for the new single.

She was trying not to get overexposed and thus chose a non-obvious single choice.  Still, it has out-streamed the lead singles from Beyoncé and Ariana.

It's blatant Lana cosplay without the magic that Lana usually has in her music

It’s a nice song but it’s a bit slow for radio. It’s dropping a lot in favour in the rising second single, and she’s getting played a lot with Cruel Summer and Anti Hero also still charting on overall radio.

It's faux-deep and trying so hard to be profound.

Also, Taylor Swift is no Morgan Wallen :coffee2:

Boring song + Taylor is extremely overexposed on radio right now.

Anti-Hero -> Lavender Haze -> Karma -> Cruel Summer ->  Is It Over Now -> Fortnight -> Broken Heart back to back without a break is crazy...

The gp went wrong. Fortnight is one of her best songs ever.

It's her best lead since cardigan but not hit material

Honestly I don't blame her, not much in the album is hit material, Fortnight was the only thing she could've released as a lead

Down bad is the only probable hit the album has left

And Fortnight is one of the better songs on the album. So Imagine how lackluster the other 30 tracks are.   :skull:
