Virgos Groove Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) Quote A woman whose murder conviction was overturned after she served 43 years in prison was released Friday, after Missouri's attorney general fought for more than a month to keep her behind bars. Sandra Hemme, 63, left prison Friday in Chillicothe, hours after a judge threatened to hold the attorney general's office in contempt if they continued to fight against her release. Quote She's been the longest-held wrongly incarcerated woman known in the U.S., according to her legal team at the Innocence Project. NBC Arrested at 21 and spent most of her life in prison. There's no ammount of money that can compensate for something like that. (Not that they're planning on giving her any since she's not eligible for Social Security... because she went to prison. ) Edited July 20 by Virgos Groove
Uncatena Posted July 20 Posted July 20 the prison system is so royally ******, there is no reforming it.

Daddy Posted July 20 Posted July 20 The police officers/sherrifs and judges should all be put down. I would seek revenge.
Frozen99 Posted July 20 Posted July 20 and what is she supposed to do now? no social security, who's gon' employ her...? murder conviction was overturned, does that mean she was innocent? shouldn't they give her some reparations?

Ms. Hemme was wrongly convicted for the 1980 murder of Patricia Jeschke in St. Joseph, Missouri, after police exploited her mental illness and coerced her into making false statements while she was sedated and receiving treatment for hallucinatory episodes. In late February 2023, Ms. Hemme's attorneys filed a petition for habeas relief in the 43rd Circuit Court of Livingston County based on compelling new evidence of her innocence. This new evidence was withheld by the State for decades and pointed to a police officer as the person who committed the crime.
