Katy Perry - "Lifetimes"

Element
Message added by Element,

Please keep discussion in this thread focused on the song. Discussions about Katy Perry's larger scale career/choices, and other artists should NOT be done here. There are plenty of other places to do so on ATRL. Thank you!

I'm so confused... I was excited for it after first snippet but this is basically whole snippet on loop. Like it's dub remix of a song.

I don't understand what went wrong, like none of these 2 songs or snippets sound good, I don't understand decision to go after EDM album after last few EDM collaborations bombed. This song won't do anything on radios, streaming or tiktok.  Not to mention that if she wanted to make a dance album she could've made an interesting dance album, not this... She went back to Dr Luke and got the worst songs out from it. Lifeless, boring. I can't believe this campaign is going to end up as another career low after all the hype.

I became a fan with Witness so I can't even imagine what it was like being a fan of her when he wasn't seen as flop joke.

It hasn't even been sent to radio. As of now it's just a promo single, not an actual single release.

Which makes us all wonder, why even release it in the first place? They should've just waited and re-start era with new single week before album.

If it's not gonna do anything on charts, why bother? Promo singles have no impact in streaming era like they had in digital era.

When I'm Gone was promoted at a football game.

Daisies was promoted on American Idol.
Electric was promoted on some stupid app.

them playing the promo single game isn't surprising.

We're in streaming era. Promo doesn't exist anymore and has no impact on charts.

The only promo that matters in streaming era is playlists

Is this playlisted anywhere? I never use playlists so it always amazed me when people talk about how important are they.

Anyway the song is really good have it on rotation all day

It currently has 33.7M playlisting on Spotify, Woman's World debuted with 44.5M playlisting.

Actual MPGs debut with at least 100M, meanwhile we're getting worse debuts than Ava Max and Charli XCX. It's BAD bad.

Oh boy! I hope the record label does some promo and add her to more playlists.

I agree. How does Capitol treat their other artists? Are they playlisted, or is it just a Katy issue?

This song is so uplifting, I know I'll never get tired of it:celestial2:

Calling lifeless a song about neverending love for a daughter is really out of touch, haters really don't know how to make sense anymore.

Songs can have an amazing message and still not be great overall songs :michael:

This is repetitive, and while I like it... It just overall falls flat. It felt like I kept waiting for a moment in the song that just never came.

I'm a little sad about the direction she took with her career. After the Witness mess, she retreated to "safe" pop with Smile, which still flopped. I was hoping that as a result, she wouldn't stress about it anymore and would experiment with something new, just to have fun with her art. Instead, she went totally generic and, honestly, kind of bland. I still bop to these new releases, but I'm grieving the missed opportunity for her to finally become something more. :\ But I guess she just don't have it in her. Her peak 2024 artistry seems to be these somewhat cute, dated bops.

Good word of mouth is better than any promo she can do. I rather have it longer and get a lower peak than debut where WW did and drop out next week.

People comparing this to WOA… this isn't even touching Teary Eyes. I'm not really a Katy stan but I appreciate her place in the pop world and this is easily shaping up to be her worst body of work yet. There's nothing fun or interesting about either of these songs so far or anything quintessentially Katy about them. I'm really shocked she would try to comeback like this.
