The only time it dropped below 26C was when I went to Mont Blanc. With global warming, your summers will get progressively hotter each year. Ya'll need AC. The AC is always just an option for most people here and that's understandable. I mean, even here in Madrid, it only gets too hot in mid-July-August and especially during the afternoon, except for few nights when it's too hot. I have the air conditioning because the house is exposed to the sun on both sides and I have a black dog, so we need it. But the thing is that during the summer, especially in August, most of us here travel to spend our time in cooler places such as beaches and other swimming areas, we don't stay at home. I feel the cold outside in the winter season more than the heat in the summer season because it's too cold for a long time here and no one can live without central heating or anything that can heat their house. But in the end, it really depends on where you live. Edited July 21 by A.R.L
abelfenty Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Where is this heatwave you speak of? It's not reached past 20C here all summer 1

But in the end, it really depends on where you live. That's the point of AC, you use it when it gets very hot, and you turn it off when it's not. No one is saying to leave it on 24/7, but to have the option of using AC when it becomes a health risk or makes it difficult to sleep or function is important. In the Northeast US, everyone has AC because it gets extremely hot and humid in the summer, even at the beaches. From my experiences in parts of Europe that do get very hot in the summer, many still think AC is an unnecessary American thing, meanwhile they suffer during the more frequent heatwaves but would not dare to admit it. I had arguments with my landlords in France and Switzerland last year because they laughed at me when I asked about AC or even fans, saying that the natural breeze was all a human needs to feel comfortable in 30C+ heat and humidity. Like what is it about French speakers that makes them detest AC so much??? Many people in San Francisco do not have AC because it never gets hot in that city, but they're not going to patronize people in Los Angeles for using AC when it's 35C 2

The scorching heat is affecting southern and eastern Europe Meanwhile NW Europe is having a god awful summer (cold and rainy) 1

Save-Me-Oprah Posted July 21 Posted July 21 inb4 an American pops in after discovering how to convert C to F and brags about how they're currently roasting at 475 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until golden grown
Sailor Moon Posted July 21 Posted July 21 All the people saying it's 20c where they live.. i'm so jealous 1

There are towns here near Madrid where people sleep with a blanket at night because it's so cold at night in July
A.R.L Posted July 21 Posted July 21 22 hours ago, Virgos Groove said: And boy do they need it. Mind you, this is 4 times more than the US (1,220), which has... 5 times the population. Since the heat related death causes are different, they are not the same. It can be a heart attack, respiratory problems, or simply a heatstroke. This is where everything gets messy, two people in two different countries die at the same time of an heart attack because of heatstroke, one death could be reported as a heatstroke case, but the other would still be reported just as an heart attack case.
