Josh Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I understand why a lot of artists especially artists like Prince hate performing their big hits because they don't resonate with the old songs anymore; ie: Britney with Sometimes Fans want to hear the deep cuts performed but the audiences want to hear the iconic songs perform for example: Janet mentioned how she would never go to a Prince concert where the classics aren't performed 1

Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Why would you go to a concert and not wanna hear the hits? casuals mainly go to concert to artist just for thier hits. 1
iHype. Posted July 19 Posted July 19 No, because that logic makes no sense. It's like an artist not releasing singles period. Standout songs will always be necessary to sell and market an artist. There is nothing to be gained, only potential losses. Obviously some touring forces could sell out tours off their name might get away with 1 or 2 'intimate stripped tours' without hits, but for the average artist skipping hits completely at tours would leave a sour taste with many casual goers and even fans.
attention Posted July 19 Posted July 19 if it must be at smaller capacities it'd be cool if artists did shows of majority deep cuts and fan favorites 2
Saintlor Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I would always love to see all of my favourite singers perform their album tracks in a smaller venue

Bubble Tea Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Madonna's setlists (until Celebration Tour) were always heavily on the new album, with the hits sprinkled in. Normally remixed or reworked I imagine so she could still stand singing the same damn thing for the 20th year in a row. I guess it would be wild to go to her show and not hear "Like a Prayer" but at the same time it's like... isn't it more exciting to hear new stuff? Idk 2
Wicked Posted July 19 Posted July 19 My hot take is a lot of the biggest artists be having the wackest setlists, but I get it. Their shows is driven by casual listeners of their work. I wanna hear deep cutz too.

Idk Tbh, going to a concert is almost similar to going to a club/bar (just dedicated to 1 artist). When people go to clubs they wanna hear hits and music they know. It isn't the time for discovery and hearing a song for the first time (like it would be with many concert goers when you start playing random album cuts and b-sides). Nothing worse than a DJ who isn't self-aware and is playing a bunch of obscure **** absolutely nobody knows and can find any groove to.
gustavothehuman Posted July 19 Posted July 19 You have to factor in that many people are seeing the artist for the first time 1
James_Joint Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Artists who care about their fans will perform the hits, even if they don't resonate with them anymore. Why would I want to see an artist that judges me for liking their own music. 2
poki Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Kylie had the Anti Tour which she specifically marketed as a "no hits just deep cuts" type of show, and it was a success because it was known this is the theme of the show. So I would say the lack of hits has to be the main attraction, not a sudden discovery. 3 1
ariesgroove Posted July 19 Posted July 19 if it's a smaller venue and a more intimate show, i think that's fine. but in a general sense, most people go to shows and spend money to hear an artist perform songs they know. you don't have to do all of them of course, kinda like how bey hung single ladies up for the rwt, but you at least gotta do something the crowd knows 1
Sadie Saxton Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I know this isn't exactly what the OP means but going to the Renaissance tour and Bey snubbing Halo and Single Ladies absolutely sent me Spoiler Now on the other hand the Sweet Dreams edging was just sick and twisted 2
Comedor Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Beyonce paid dust to her hits during the Renaissance WT. it was all about the era.
Digitalism Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Let's face it most artists don't have a good enough discog to do that

Xtripped Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Tours must be 5-6 new songs from the parent album and all the GH. 2
