Did the announcer say their record is 61-0 at the Olympics? Maybe this shouldn't be at the Olympics

For women's sports, it takes some time for nations to develop their talent and teams to catch up with the US. Obvi with the politics and disparities, nations aren't going to invest in women's sports and women won't feel motivated to pursue. Football/soccer is better because the US is not this gigantic superpower anymore and can't be complacent.

Things the FIG needs to do moving forward from this floor bronze issue

1. Have line judges on the field of play. There were too many OOB issues that were deducted improperly throughout these championships. Not only did Sabrina get a 0.1 when she shouldn't have, which partly created this entire problem, but a Dutch athlete was deducted 0.3 instead of 0.1 for her OOB which was enough to remove her from the all-around final.

2. Executive committee that handle inquiries CANNOT be affiliated or elected officials like they are now. They need to be pulled from the same pool of judges they do for the rest of competition. It does seem like the decision to give Jordan a 0.1 bump in score after the initial inquiry was biased as she did not complete her Gogean leap successfully, and keeping unbiased, unelected judges to make this decision could have prevented this whole issue.

3. A visible clock needs to be located on the scoreboard after every routine, indicating how much time is left to specifically inquire. Plus, the last athlete needs to have the same amount of time to inquire as the other athletes to ensure fairness.

4. There needs to be a new addition to the rules that state no athlete should lose their medal if a judging issue is uncovered later, but additional medals need to be awarded instead. Both Romania and the United States Olympic organizations advocated for the three athletes involved to all share a medal, which would have easily been the right thing to do and cause the least amount of chaos. It's still shocking this is not the path the CAS, FIG, and IOC chose to take, and it needs to be changed so this result never happens again.

I feel really bad for Jordan (and honestly the whole situation is a mess for all parties), but people flaming the Romanian gymnasts on Twitter is not it. Take it to the judges or IOC if you're pissed.

Not me forced to touch grass again :psyduck:

It has been some fun two weeks though.

Archery and artistic gymnastic were really fun to watch :clap3:

I mean, the US only had 1 more gold than China at the Tokyo Olympics so it shouldn't come as a complete shock.

China has been expanding their expertise and picking up medals in some of their traditionally weaker sports such as swimming. The US needs to start doing that. It blows my mind they don't seem to be competing in sports like rowing or kayak/canoeing when most countries send their talent to the US on scholarships :rip:

Let's also remember that Russia was not part of this Olympics. That also played a big role this time around. :celestial5:

I'm not sure how Russia is doing in other sports, but in gymnastics where they dominated in 2020 there has been a noticeable decline in their talent level which I assume is due to the ban. Had a decision went out earlier this year to allow Russia to compete in the Olympics, I cannot imagine their athletes would have made a significant impact in the medals in this sport.

Both ASac and Nadia need to calm down, both have been acting unprofessional with what they've decided to post/repost/highlight.  If I were Jordan, I would just move on and not even want the bronze at this point.

OT:  I just watched the 4x400M Relay Final.  Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was like a rocket.  :msmarvel:

USA did really great yes they are weak in some areas but are still the most titled by far.
However France absolutely sucks in major sports such as athletics (1 silver medal after a week :rip:) and let's not even talk about gymnastics we lost one gold winner.

It's 9 pm in France and the sun is up. I'm confused. Unless those were pre-recorded.

Edit: I just learned that the sun is still up at night during the summer in some countries. Autant pour moi!

These were kinda my favorite Summer Olympics I've ever watched. The scenery, the venues, the drama, the winners, the ceremonies… it was all to my tastes.:jonny5:

Beijing 2008 are the first Summer Olympics I truly remember watching, and back then my young self was in awe with all the different sports, but I think this has finally topped that.

Imo, it's been Paris 2024 >>> Beijing 2008 >> London 2012 >>> Rio 2016 >>> Tokyo 2020 (poor Japan, they really had the worst luck ever :gaycat7:)

For women's gymnastics excitement I'd rank them:

Simone>Aly & Team Gold

Nastia>Shawn

Gabby & Team Gold

Carly

Simone>Sunisa & Team Gold; but also they're trying to strip Jordan of her medal

Not Nastia and Shawn second when they should be last :biblio: those Olympics were all about the success of the Chinese team.
