Alldeezy Posted July 14 Posted July 14 I agree Woman's world is actually not awful .. it's just underwhelming. You guys act like it was the worse song ever or something
Sazare Posted July 14 Posted July 14 It is a bandwagon yeah but I hope this serves as a warning for anyone who tries to work with Luke in the future!
Boniqua Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Prefacing this post by saying that I am a longtime fan of Katy's AND Kesha's. Both in my top 3 since like 2009 tbh. As such, the last few weeks have been tough for me to see unfold. I am genuinely starting to feel bad for Katy because she has been such a ginormous laughingstock for 4 days and it shows no signs of letting up. I genuinely do not know how she proceeds from here and I hope she is surrounded by uplifting people right now. That said, every time I start to feel bad for her, I am reminded that she is where she is because of the consequences of her own actions. Even if Luke was never proven guilty officially, he is considered guilty by the court of public opinion in a case that case was recent, long-running, and high profile. So, it's still at the forefront of everyone's minds contrary to a lot of the whataboutisms that people bring up. Also, one of her own peers who is still active in the business was the primary victim. Intentionally seeking him out for this record despite all of that was a careless death sentence of her own doing. Compound all of that with the subject matter of the song, the fact that the song is objectively flavorless, and that the video's satire did not land at all; causing her to appear contributory to the very problems she was hoping to speak against...and you get all this. *gestures to the room* Also, not really relevant as it is a minor detail that most are not picking up on, but Luke adding himself to credits like background vocals to get a larger chunk of royalties is preposterously ironic. Katy's getting played for a fool by him on her own women's anthem that she invited him to be a part of. It's nuts. 3
cyberraga Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Yawn. This happens with every artist. Katy is not a victim. Especially when you consider the malicious things her (very few) dedicated stans have been saying in the recent weeks/months about Kesha and Lady Gaga before WW was released. This week has humbled them though. 3
modeblock Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Katy set herself up on a silver platter with this because all the controversy and big lead up to the single dropping only for it to be a mediocre dated mess? She needed to deliver a bulletproof monster smash a la Flowers, no I'm not kidding, but that's what was required by society to let her back into the top 10 on billboard and she failed to deliver. The misogyny is inexcusable, but there are tons and tons of critiques that aren't rooted in hatred of women, but in valid criticism of her brand of white liberal feminism (not to mention her GOP support) that ultimately hurts women.
applestar Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Katy hate is way overblown but I think she's harmed more by her previous albums/single choices (Witness & Smile) than her Luke association personally WW is better than anything she's done since prism 3

The problem is that Katy Perry is the pop girl equivalent of Nickelback,Maroon 5, LMFAO she is everything that people dislike about pop music - vapid, generic, no sense of style or any sort of substance, the lyrics are always A grade awful that they are borderline offensive, creepy sexual image combined with kindergarten aesthetic (stolen from those comic books) and awful vocals on top of all of it. I will not even mention Dr. Luke I used to be able to listen to her music like a decade ago, but now as I am older it's obvious how bad and cringe everything she released is bar maybe few songs, I am actually shocked that in the era where we had Rihanna, Gaga and Beyonce at their peaks, Katy Perry was considered their peer and had similar success vise. It's obvious people share this sentiment and finally saw her for what she was during Witness era I would say that even Selena Gomez who is always called the most talentless and worst MPG here has much better, more mature and interesting pop catalogue than Katy if you compare her to all the other MPGs, all of them have some sort of edge, dash of personalty, some sort of interesting quirks in their music, they act and look like adults Katy Perry on the other end is the actual Mc Donalds of pop music, or she used to be when she was successful, now she's just that trashy local bodega you go to after a drunk night out True, but to be the Mc Donalds of pop music you have to release or re-release new material and make at least 400 variants of your new product. Like fries with mustard. Or fries with ketchup. Or fries with mayo. This title was taken from another one already.
Funnyfatty Posted July 15 Posted July 15 She collaborated with a man who raped her friend. What are you even talking about? Overdone? The backlash isn't even that big.

For a short period of time but they were. They met like a dozen of times and talked about the songs they wrote and this happened before any of both's breakthroughs so that probably made it more special. Safe to say they knew each other better than most industry peers know them. It's a pity.
Sazare Posted July 16 Posted July 16 The hate for the song definitely feels like a bandwagon. It's just extremely dull but it's no worse than Chained to the Rhythm, and if I'm being honest it's barely even worse than Roar. But! She worked with Luke and all hate she gets for that is absolutely deserving of the hate-train!
Bubble Tea Posted July 16 Posted July 16 All this over a cute little bop. "Women's World" is fun and silly.
UnusualBoy Posted July 17 Posted July 17 The hate was before they knew about WW, the song just gave them a bigger excuse to drag.
