Konril Posted July 12 Posted July 12 The thing is... people love a comeback especially from a pop juggernaut like Katy. She just really miscalculated with working with Dr. Luke and the moment everyone collectively hear that the output was not up to par, everyone pounced on her misstep. All of the articles coming out piling up on her is going into overdrive. I hope she steers away online for now because the discourse is just overkill. 1

Katy has no one to blame but herself, she did CHOSE to do this. Edited July 12 by Stifler's Mom

Other publications, including Billboard and Rolling Stone, also included 'Stupid Love' on their lists of the best songs of the year." Where is it on metacritic's overall top list? Billboard and RS always name biggest artists in their lists just for the sake of clicks and popularity. Let me remind you that singles from Madonna's last 3 albums were also on their YEC. What about pitchfork? It was acclaimed by them you said. Edited July 12 by NoAngelus 4

This is probably the worst lead single ir herstory.

Afterglow Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Idk, just so tone deaf as a single. I've never released and album, nor managed a major popstar....but it was so obvious that this was not the right choice and hardly a song that would even make the album.

Wicked Posted July 12 Posted July 12 "It's a song that made me feel stupider every sorry time I listened to it." This is about right. You feel the brain being squeezed like a lemon every 5 seconds of the song.

It's pretty clear that she's very aware that this is her last chance saloon - she's nearly 40 and wants to stay relevant and get another hit - which there's nothing wrong with - it's her career and she should want to succeed. But where she went wrong is she thought Dr. Luke was the answer to that because of all their previous hits together. She refrained from working with him for years because of the Kesha situation, but when she saw that Nicki and Doja were scoring hits with him she thought "if they can do it then why can't I?" What she didn't consider is that people will come down harder on her than those other artists because unlike Nicki or Doja, Katy was actually involved in the Kesha case (whether she should have been or not is a different matter - but she was involved). The right answer is usually the simplest one. There's no need to come up with elaborate excuses for her. Agreed. The "Who R U" bit in the video, her promo of bragging about her past successes (polishing RIAA diamond awards), is further proof. I do think Katy has a rose-colored glass view of Luke as well. He probably treats her very nicely because he knows that she is responsible for him going from producer with a few mild hits to a mainstream super-producer. So she probably doesn't truly think of him as the devil everyone else does. It reminds me of how Meghan Trainor commented on how "nice" and "supportive" LA Reid has always been of her and her career despite Gaga, Pink, and many other celebs dropping hints that he's a total jerk. LA Reid was probably always nice to Trainor because she was successful from the beginning and he didn't need anything to change from her. 1
