Virgos Groove Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Seriously, you can't find anything without putting Reddit after or using the "site:" function. I was trying to find an old 80s forum discussing Madonna and, despite trying multiple captions and going past the 1st page, nothing showed up. Then I go on another search engine and it took me less than 5 seconds. What I was looking for was literally the second result. 14
Vixen Eyes Posted July 8 Posted July 8 (edited) google's first page is usually ads anyway lol that and they added that stupid AI mess 1 minute ago, Virgos Groove said: Then I go on another search engine and it took me less than 5 seconds. BrokenMachine Posted July 8 Posted July 8 They ended up prioritizing ads instead of efficiency. If there's a minimal reason to show you ads they'll do it instead of putting the result you were looking for. YouTube search is way worse, the 'sort by upload date' filter is useless. It was so easy to find fancams from concerts back in the day, now the algorithm just hides those videos and puts you endless recommendations of stuff you weren't even looking for. It's a nightmare 14
Walk_Away21 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Oh it's absolutely horrific these days. I never considered switching but I might have to. Every search result is now some (probably) AI generated article with word salad content filled to the brim with ads. ChatGPT / Copilot are gonna takedown this useless search engine, and it's what they deserve. 1

It's a nightmare Omg yes the youtube search is awful. You type in "how to change a tire" and about 4 results down it will recommend gaming and music videos you've already seen. 8 1

Istg, I'm gonna snap if I see another poorly made AI thumbnail or another tabloid video like this. 1 5
Park Jinyoung Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Youtube search is equally awful. A couple weeks ago I was trying to find video of a concert from a couple years ago and usually you can just type the date format, city and artist and would get the exact results for videos of that day. Like I've done it so many times before. This is a very well documented artist. But for the life of me I could not get any results of this damn concert. I though I was going insane. 3 1
Monday Night Messiah Posted July 8 Posted July 8 You also used to be able to get results for the exact phrase you put in by adding quotes on both ends. For example, if you want to search for "Taylor Swift doesn't wash her legs," you'll get websites with that exact phrase by putting them in quotes. I found out that's not as effective anymore and in some cases, doesn't work at all. I was looking for a porn video called "The Power of Manning, Part 1" with Nick Manning and it didn't show up at all, saying there are no results. This is despite a page with that name appearing on search results without the quotes. Reverse Google Image search is also useless nowadays, especially when looking up people. It will not show results at all. A good alternative now is TinEye. Google is useless. Use DuckDuckGo or Yandex.
Aden Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Alphabet integrating AI especially ruined Google when you think about how many websites nowadays structure their SEO specifically for Google's search engine. You have millions of site trying to game Google's algorithm and AI being thrown in only created a huge mess. I don't even use Google anymore. I straight up just search Reddit. I need answers from PEOPLE. 3
Dante Silva Posted July 8 Posted July 8 (edited) I swopped over to the AI feature in Snapchat. It's amazing how in depth and specific it's answers are. On a separate note, I do tarot readings sometimes and it can even tell me what different combinations of cards mean. Edited July 8 by Dante Silva
harwee Posted July 8 Posted July 8 (edited) They're adding a lot of restrictions based on your location, they're doing it behind the scenes. There's a lot more you can't see without explicitly being blocked so you won't really know. Edited July 8 by harwee
Ewan Chaos Posted July 8 Posted July 8 This video probably sums up most of it. I think a lot of people are attributing Google's downfall to the 2024-specific rise in AI, but it's kinda been noticeably bad since around like... 2018. I remember wanting to buy a laptop and the amount of junk, non-human articles shoved to the first page 2

Lost In Paradise Posted July 8 Posted July 8 it's because Google is getting even greedier and now want to keep all search traffic on Google, instead of driving into the top search results AI overviews, etc. are all to keep you on Google and not go to other sites
dinorhino Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I always felt stupid for having to basically search reddit posts to find slivers of information but i'm glad I'm not alone now. Whenever I would try without reddit it took 9x longer to find the information, if I could even find it 1
Lüwís Posted July 8 Posted July 8 My issue with searching on Google these days is when I'm trying to find written instructions on how to do something and it just comes up with videos. I don't want a video. I want to read what I need to do. I don't want to have to keep pausing a video or listen to some idiot explaining things. I just want to read the instructions. 1
Capris Groove Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I made DuckDuckGo my primary search engine a while back, and after I got used to the different design (which is a hurdle considering we've all been using Google for 20 years) it's been much better overall for me. Love it.
on the line Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Huh. I've noticed recently it's been a lot harder to find things on Google but figured I was just stoned and being inept. Glad to see it's not just the weed. 1
charot Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) I hate the new image search. Google Lens returns 0 results most of the time. Edited July 9 by charot 1
Alldeezy Posted July 9 Posted July 9 My Phones Google so I love Google but yeah the image search kinda sucks now on the window browser
