Virgos Groove Posted July 7 Posted July 7 What would the dynamics be? Which acts would be dominate the site? Who would be their cult girls, equivalent to Carly and Tinashe? My predictions: Madonna vs. Janet vs. Mariah vs. Whitney on a daily basis, with Céline stans (and lots of bandwagoners) joining in the mid-90s. Things would get ugly in the Erotica era. George Michael would be like Shawn or Harry, but actually talented. Lots of speculation on his sexuality and endless discourse on whether he's "queerbaiting". Whitney stans would be like the Navy, spending 8 years asking for an album and only getting side projects in the meantime (though theirs were at least musical ). I can see Oasis having a few stans, but most of this place would hate them. Every time they did something, their threads would be filled with that "Enough" gif. U2 would be really disliked entering the decade, but Achtung and Zooropa would convert some ATRLers. The US/Europe divide would be way more pronounced and toxic, with endless comparisons between the US Hot 100 and the Europe Hot 100. Kylie would become an ATRL darling after BTDYK, but negatively compared to Madonna around 1991/92. Janet stans would be their unlikely ally. I can see this hapenning too: "Confide in Me released in the US. Is Kylie coming to smash?" *a week later* "Kylie's US label goes bankrupt" 1 11

Imagine the meltdowns (including mine). No one wants to wake up to the news I woke up to this morning. No one. I was preparing my coffee, turning on dial-up and the first thing I read is: "Geri Halliwell leaves Spice Girls". I blinked my eyes countless times and I went on AOL just to see more and more posts about it. I couldn't believe it. My Spice Girls dream was over and there I was at 8AM sitting in my kitchen looking at the screen of my iMac. I know this may sound a bit too much but… Yes. Tears started falling from my eyes and they wouldn't stop. I don't consider this to be an over dramatic reaction like many of you could easily consider. I look at it as unconditional love, dedication and passion. Something unexplainable, no one can translate love into words or even admiration. Some people get your attention and you don't know why. And while I am fully aware that Spice Girls are not over, they're just down to four, I also am aware that it's never going to be the same. It doesn't matter if it is Geri or Melanie C or Melanie B or Emma or Victoria. It doesn't. I saw this girlgroup being born when they were just five little girls. A few years later they turned into strong and confident women and extremely inspirational. They brought the term "girlgroup" back in the music industry and scored two of the biggest hits of this new decade. I was obsessed and extremely proud of it. I've always been aware that girlgroups are not meant to last and that's why I flew to Istanbul just to see them live last year. I knew this was a fast career and that's why I spent over 800 DM on this girlgroup (I've watched them live twice, I met them twice, I bought their music, I took a trip just to see them, paid hotel… You make the counts!). I wanted to live it as much as I could and looking back I am so proud of every single thing I did for them. They brought back my fan vein in a way I've never experienced before. Madonna, Mariah… They're both established artists and it's another story on how their careers are handled. Every Spice Girls fan was aware that Geri Halliwell was not happy. Ever since "Wannabe" became a smash, something went wrong and the relationship between Geri and the four girls has always been weird. There's indifference and I don't know what to think. Nonetheless, I am no one to judge that. All I want to make clear is: the Spice Girls are never going to be the Spice Girls again and that's why I feel like my dream has been crashed. My Spice Girls dream has ended. It hurts so bad when you're not prepared… After all they announced a third album last week. And no. I am not turning my back on Geri. This was a rough decision but I know what it's like to be in a place where you don't belong or feel included and sometimes... It's better to just go for it. Yet, I always like to see things from the bright side and I am going to always support the Spice Girls as a group just like any of the five girls as individual acts. They've had an amazing and beautiful impact in my life. Spice Girls… Good luck. Geri Halliwell… Good Luck. Spice Girls… Thank You. You've given me the ultimate fan experience and you've been so inspirational. All of you. Cry Posted July 7 Posted July 7 "Cyndi's last hit was in 1989. Why?" "Who will be the next girl to have their own The Bodyguard?" Constant Madonna vs Janet flamebait threads , especially after that Janet quote "they shipped but it got shipped back" "Who has the biggest career? Cher or Barbra?" 1 1
Dante Silva Posted July 7 Posted July 7 If Shampoo had stans, there would have been fights over Geri Halliwell taking this song title and claiming it as an artefact of Spice Girls branding (years before she admitted she did).
