North by Northwest because it kind of invented James Bond and Don Draper

Yes, the first movie I ever watched according to my parents was Rear Window.  I've watched all of his most iconic films but my favorite is still Rear Window :jonny5:

yess, he's my favorite filmmaker of all time!

the thing I love about his filmography is that most other directors that have long filmographies feel random af and are all over the place (like De Palma for example). what I love about Hitchcock is that all of his movies are in conversation with each other, and whether it's by themes, plot devices, settings, editing, etc. you can more or less group them together and it feels very curated. the only other director that I know of that does this to this extent is Almodovar (whom I also love).

his career also spanned pretty much through all major moments in cinema history so there's something for everyone: the silents, the early talkies, the big studio system blockbusters, the movies with a gimmick, all the way to the death of the studio system and his kind of auteur filmmaking.

that being said, as a person he was also gross and had an unhealthy pervy sexual obsession that resulted in decades of abuse and mistreatment of women, so yeah. I feel like not enough people talk about this.

I've watched Lifeboat because of Tallulah Bankhead (she was great, of course) and I really liked it. I would definitely recommend it.
