alfonso12 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Their first EP was cute, the second one was kinda boring but this one is really catchy. Oh and probably their best video, they looked amazing. 1
Starkboy Posted August 4 Posted August 4 It'a true, The Lead has been their peak so far but they do not miss at all! Another good bop. Also this is their best video. I hope they get their deserved breakout hit sooner or later. 2 1

I know they had mangement problems but still. You can quite literally feel the lack of momentum... no social media / playlist accounts shouting them out like they used to (SpotifyUK did which was a little surprising actually). No magazine covers like there was around the BBC Sound of 2023 poll / Fly Girl The TikToks they do even give a little desperate. What's crazy is Jorja's tweet and the group's general insinuation that they're always tired / working extremely hard. And the 2 week video turnaround from July 19 to Aug. 2. Definitely gives overworked I hope something gives for them because I like all their releases even the TikTok-y ones Thank you! Someone who gets it! There's @troy4783 running around downvoting any post that isn't ignoring the obvious: the girls ARE against the ropes. We all like them and want them to win, but it's ok to be transparent. They really should have dropped the album around Fly Girl. I think a bunch of these acts put way too much emphasis on "the first album'. Just release it. Even Destriny's Child properly broke through with their second album. They have now been backed into a corner where if they thought they didn't have momentum at the point of Fly Girl, then what now? I also get the impression they are focussing on the US (Kehlani, festivals), but doesn't feel like it's being paired with a radio, interview etc push. Everything feels pretty busy but disjointed. Lastly, I don't care for this gen-z "we're tired" spiel. If Destiny's Child, TLC, and the likes had the same mentality, they would not have blown the way they did. Put the work in, deliver beyind expectation every time, and yield the results. 1 1
Adama Posted August 4 Posted August 4 (edited) I love this song! They are very trendy, but unlike the others, they always incorporate these gorgeous harmonies . Agree with the critics regarding the choreography, it's been years since they debuted but they aren't improving dancing wise. With a hard training it could have been fixed months ago. They needs to be more serious about that part bc dancing was always a things with GG. I really hope the song goes viral on TikTok so they can finally chart! And the problem with FLO is not the music, it's the lack of investment from their team and a lack of support from the GP/casual listeners. Like XG a Japanese group covered Losing You and got the double of their mv views . MNEK composed and produced a song for a K-pop girl, Natty, last year: the song out-viewed and out-streamed every Flo releases. And it's typically the kind of music they dropped. Check is the typical trendy Jersey Club songs that the K-pop groups like New Jeans, LSRFM and Illit are doing right now. And all of these groups are getting millions of YouTube views and streams. If they released Check, they will probably be smashing right now. And it's exactly what Katseye (another GG from HYBE) is experimenting right now. They released another Jersey Club song and We can clearly see that the label is paying a lot of tik tokers to use the sound plus they dropped dance performances, and did challenges with others kpop groups so the song keeps rising like it's the same vibes lol and yet… like their debut was on par but if their team don't have a clear strategy to promote the song it's going to go nowhere… https://x.com/chartdata/status/1819790077595095375?s=46 Edited August 4 by Adama 1
TalkThatRihanna Posted August 6 Author Posted August 6 I need this to smash for them Their label needs to invest in them with a big feature or good playlisting
BRAT. Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) Check was their first slight miss for me. Off the back of Caught Up which felt very grown and like they were evolving from their previous sound, Check feels like a step back into what their previous nostalgia & viral bait sound. The lyrics of the chorus sounds like a label exec freaking out and needing a TikTok viral sound before the album happens. Walk Like This to Caught Up really felt like a graduation from their EP and that they had found their own sound after constantly being compared to other artists/sounds/eras, which wasn't a problem for their EP as it's what helped them grow legs and find their fans, but they can't still be giving Destiny's Child tribute act two and a half years into their career. I fear the critical acclaim and huge stan love has sort of blurred the lines for them and their team. Yes they have impressive accolades under their belt (BRIT award & BBC Sound Of… winner) and several viral tweets, but they are still yet to have any commercial success… anywhere. They missed a huge moment with Fly Girl. It debuted close to top 40 and with promo and performances in the UK the following week it could've been a hit here. This should've been when they hammered home a listener base in the UK beyond people on Twitter, secured a top 40 single, followed by a top 10 album the next month. Instead they went straight over to the USA for months the week after release? I don't understand their team's decision which seems to be to 'crack' America when they haven't even managed to do so in the UK first. Their team need to realign their expectations and treat them as what they are, a new girl group in an era where girl groups aren't thriving. and focus on actually getting a hit with some promo. Where is the Radio 1 exclusive First Listen? YouTube interview games with ELLE and GQ? Edited August 6 by BRAT.
Dolce Vita Posted August 6 Posted August 6 this is the spiritual successor to superlove, tinashe needs to be on the remix i fear
rapperjennie Posted August 6 Posted August 6 haven't really checked them since the successful run of cardboard box/not my job but this song is great loveeee that chorus and those harmonies throughout
El Nino Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I was listening to their music while making vegan pies from scratch, not everybody has the skill *Mariah Carey shade*, last night. I discovered they have a little cute catalog of music. I found myself dancing and singing along to many of their songs. Maybe the disconnect has nothing to do with their efforts after all.
LuckyCunt Posted August 10 Posted August 10 They're on a major label, but the label isn't doing ish it seems. This is the perfect single to put money behind with promo and playlist. 2
Cotton Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Check is so good. Definitely their best single this year imo, I am kinda sad to see that as a group commercially they've kinda gone nowhere. Not sure what more could be done to alleviate that but their music is great overall. I hope that they're able to find their stride 2
attention Posted August 10 Posted August 10 i think it's hard to break as a western pop/vocal group in general - we're looking at why dont we, boys world, & prettymuch who all fizzled in the past few years in a post 1d/little mix/5th harmony world. in terms of now theres these more niche acts like flo, no guidnce, citizen queen, & say now. it's a low chance to break but i do think flo is building their core following

Any domestic groups are at a major disadvantage because they don't have access to the ecosystem of music shows, the variety show circuit to promote, company fanbases etc. Not to mention Korean entertainment companies have mastered the formula for parasocial relationships too well. 4 1

It IS hard to break out. And, as someone who "gets" the UK market, there literally isn't an active commercial R&B lane for them to thrive in, so they almost have to carve one out afresh or pop in the Pop lane. In short, they had their work cut out for them from the get-go. HOWEVER... They'd significantly help their cause by releasing undeniable smashes. Not cute songs that their die-hards will defend and excuse but are otherwise "mid". Same with the meh EPs that fans here excused as "brand building". Sometimes, it's not that deep. Release back-to-back bops and stand a way better chance to have a breakout moment. I have literally seen so many acts come and go after being gassed up a) by the industry and b) by their fanbase who tend to not see how dire things are until it's over. I don't want that for the girls, but it still feels like shaky ground.

I saw their live performance on one of those Morning America shows and they were lip syncing for their lives. It's sad there's more of a push for these type of girl groups... But good for them I guess. 1
Truth Teller Posted August 14 Posted August 14 This HIT today. Their best song, I fear. I didn't like the other droplets after Fly Girl so much, but this one is IT. Y'all better be streaming hard, we need to restore the momentum
KasioKas Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Really like the acoustic, wish it had the whistle even if it was a copy paste from the original track and not a new vocal.
