suburbannature Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Breakdown is one of the best songs of the 90s alongside The Roof. I Get Lonely is great, but there are better songs on TVR (e.g. Empty) 1
Havoc Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Both amazing and iconic but Breakdown is literally Mariahs best for me. 1

LegaMyth Posted July 2 Posted July 2 You've literally picked my favorite songs from each artist. Like, my all-time #1 from both. The I Get Lonely dance routine....... 1
Slap Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Both of these songs are masterpieces and not even the most well known songs of theirs, a testament to both their legacies. But Breakdown is my fave, always gets me in my feels. 1
itshyolee Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I love both, but I'll give this one to Mariah. Do you cling to your pride and sing "I Will Survive"? Do you lash out and say "How dare you leave this way"? Do you hold on in vain as they just slip away? 2

You called yesterday to basically say That you care for me but that you're just not in love Immediately I pretended to be feeling similarly And led you to believe I was O.K. To just walk away from the one thing That's unyielding and sacred to me Well I guess I'm trying to be nonchalant about it And I'm going to extremes to prove I'm fine without you But in reality I'm slowly losing my mind Underneath the guise of a smile gradually I'm dying inside Friends ask me how I feel and I lie convincingly 'Cause I don't wanna reveal the fact that I'm suffering So I wear my disguise 'til I go home at night Then turn down all the lights and then I break down and cry 1 1
Leptine Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Impossible choice for me, both are truly between their best songs, two masterpieces. 1
Wicked Posted July 2 Posted July 2 This is hard, IGL is a grander sounding song, production wise. I listen to Breakdown more... But both are great, could go either way depending on my mood. 1
banterfly Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Breakdown is not just a song. It's a masterpiece lyrically and musically. They way a powerhouse vocalist just all of a sudden record a hip hop record like that is just so surreal. This was the perfect blend of poetry and thug, and of femininity and masculinity.
