SleepingTigers Posted July 1 Posted July 1 It's a classic at this point I fear, fine song but definitely got tired of hearing it. And he has better songs.
Klein Posted July 1 Posted July 1 You can't deny this is a classic in the making. I wish Daydreaming had received this success though. 1
LostInStereo100 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 I feel like with the current music landscape, he would absolutely smash hard right now if he released music. like harder than he did in 2022 which is insane to think about
storminthedark Posted July 1 Posted July 1 When you make a modern classic Coming to be the most streamed song of all time

The thing is, that's if he released right now. And I don't know where he is in terms of his album. He was with his producer in Rome last week, so he might still be a little ways to go in terms of release.
Billionaire Posted July 1 Posted July 1 (edited) Is this officially bigger than Blinding Lights? Edited July 1 by Billionaire
UnusualBoy Posted July 1 Posted July 1 A classic, my mom discovered it not long ago and she stans it hard now lol.

It spent longer at #1 (15 weeks vs 4 in the US, organically), but less time on Billboard over all (61 weeks vs 90), though that's more circumstantial cause it depends on a lot of different things, like, Blinding Lights exploded during the pandemic and there weren't that many album bombs, which allowed it to stay and not go recurrent for longer. While As It Was was affected by several album bombs in 2023 (after a year of being released). But Blinding Lights wasn't #1 for several weeks very narrowly as well. I'd say in terms of Billboard they were pretty even, even though stats would say differently (and you could make a case for either). As It Was was #2 Year End Charts, but it was released in April, about halfway through the year for Billboard (they start counting in November). Blinding Lights was #1 but it was released November 2019, so it had its entire run to count. Outside of the US, As It Was is slightly bigger, chart-wise. In the UK AIW was #1 for 10 weeks vs 8 weeks for Blinding Lights. It was top 10 for 37 weeks, 22 weeks for Blinding Lights. BL charted total for 147 weeks, which is insane! AIW is currently charting, week 97 (also insane). In terms of certifications, it's kinda hard to tell because Blinding Lights is 2 1/2 years older than AIW, and both were consumed a lot in the years following their release (still are), so they're still racking up certs. In Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain, AIW is slightly behind BL but probably will have similar certs in a similar time. AIW is behind in Germany, Poland, and Sweden, and probably won't catch up on a similar timing. It's not certified in Norway while BL is 8x Plat. It's certified in Switzerland 4x Platinum while BL isn't. It's ahead in Mexico and Brazil. Same certification in France and Greece, meaning it'll probably end up ahead. In the UK AIW it's at 4x but will probably cross 5x very soon. BL is at 7x, I don't think it's close to 8x. In the US, it's apparently almost at RIAA Diamond, but it hasn't been updated since 6x. I think they're waiting to go straight to Diamond (they skipped everything between 2 and 6 already). I think it might be slightly earlier than BL? IDK when BL crossed the number of sales, but it was certified April 2022, so two and a half years since release, while AIW was at 9.5M two years and two months after release. All in all they're pretty head to head in terms of charts and sales. I think AIW will end up edging it with total streams on Spotify. Blinding Lights is technically the biggest song of the 2010s imo, and AIW the biggest song of the 2020s (so far). I'd settle it that way. 1 1
