Popular Post Bimbo Posted June 26 Popular Post Posted June 26 The album plays like a TikTok video: attention-grabbing, disposable, and instantly forgettable. There's a paradox at the heart of Camila Cabello's hyperpop rebranding, for the way that it seemingly champions individualism but leans aggressively on current trends. Loaded with modish bells and whistles, Cabello's fourth studio album, C,XOXO, aims to capture the whimsical charm and energy of a flirtatious wink but lacks genuine spontaneity. Even as the music desperately tries to convince you of its unflappable bad-***** mojo, many of the songs come across more like an annoying younger sibling begging for attention. A more accurate comparison for C,XOXO might be that of an adolescent impersonating an adult—the adult, in this case, being Charli XCX, whose ditzy Auto-Tuned vocals are shamelessly copied at the start of "Chanel No.5"—and mistaking mimicry for mastery. This could also explain the album's juvenile fascination with swear words and sexual innuendo, pushed to cringe-inducing extremes on "June Gloom" ("Does she get this wet for you, baby?"). Cabello is a competent enough performer but isn't magnetic enough to sell most of these songs. This becomes apparent whenever she's paired with more skilled artists. Read more. 17
Lyrical. Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Yup, she's trying way too hard just to be instantly forgettable, which is an accurate description of the music thus far and I don't expect any better for the album. The fact that the lead single hasn't even hit 100M streams yet
ohjulia Posted June 26 Posted June 26 This album doesn't really feel like Camila… Seems too manufactured and forced. I'm really not feeling this album at all and I hope this is not the path she wants to take for future albums 1

They would know about mimicry since they just regurgitate what they read from crazies on twitter get those clicks hon I know you need to eat 1 1 4
reymiu Posted June 26 Posted June 26 yeah I like Camila and enjoy both singles (I Love It, He Knows) - smth's still not really clicking for me She's just not able to sell the bad bit*h persona Latin music's obviously still where she shines best (I also enjoy Familia a lot and think it still holds up now)
xluvxduffxmusicx Posted June 26 Posted June 26 I think we all knew the reception for this image rebrand was going to be horrid. I'm curious to see where she goes next.
discosean Posted June 26 Posted June 26 All she knows how to do is take off her clothes and suck the right dicks. You can't sustain a long term career like that. Look at JLo and Sabrina Carpenter. 11

Illuminati Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Don't know about the rest of the album but Chanel no5 was so blatant I expected her to whisper "eh eh x c,xoxo" in the end 1

liquiddiamonds Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Quote Cabello is a competent enough performer but isn't magnetic enough to sell most of these songs. This becomes apparent whenever she's paired with more skilled artists, such as Drake on the dancehall-flavored "Hot Uptown" or the City Girls's JT and Yung Miami, who rap circles around her on "Dade County Dreaming." oooooh it was bad for her LMAO
Thin White Duke Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Ooff I mean, the beauty of the brat aesthetic/hyperpop is that it has a build up. This type of vibe is very character based and someone like Charli has been building it up from pretty much the start. So when someone, seemingly out of nowhere, hops on it with no warming it doesn't feel right. It's equivalent to a Disney Channel character putting on a choker and calling themselves "goth now". And that's coming from someone who's actually rooting for Camila - she has a lot of star quality, a great performer and a distinct voice - she just needs to find her lane.

Her lane is latin-infused rhythmic pop songs
