People projecting the colonial history of Spain - Catalunya - The Americas on a pop singer doing latin genres that she probably grew up listening to since latin genres have become the forefront of spanish language music in the last thirty years. They also deny she has nonetheless became successful in her own niche in Latin America and has scored quite a few hits, although for them she's a no-thing here, even though I see people everyday wearing that motomami barcelona shirt and she had a sold out tour in our continent. Meanwhile they give a free pass to other artists to appropriate us and have no problem stanning people from countries that have nonetheless continuously colonized us in contemporary times

Worm for ******* brains. Imagine projecting a colonial structure onto a person doing music, when she's not even as successful as the latinos who created and do the same genres like Karol G herself, instead of fighting for actual historical reparations. That Rosalia has said stupid things about her doing our genres are no news, but that doesn't make her guilty of our colonial past, at most just bad music while experimenting with other genres

we're not less latinos or trying to be accepted by whites because we see it as a non-issue. and the energy for that using actual white people as AVIs and stanning them hard here…. welp

Basically, with the internet and globalization in general, the Latin cultural 'sphere' has merged in ways that didn't exist before. The influence on Latin American culture is also huge in Spain, and vice versa. As a result, the Spanish audience, who are now also becoming artists, have grown up being exposed to listening to Latin genres with songs in their language. Think of it as UK and US cultures affecting each other.

Now, the situation is far more complex because of the history of how Latin America has been colonized and ruled by the Spanish/Portuguese, and now individuals like Rosalia are dismissed for recording music that's falling into different Latin American genres. They (usually the 'woke' far-left) is seeing this as unfair, and labelling her as a colonizer. There's similar animosity towards the Latin people from the US never being fully accepted as Latinos, it's a whole thing. Basically these things happen when you have hundreds of millions of people being exposed to the same cultural influences, while living on 3 different continents. And these discussions will always be held, however, you'd think that people on this forum would know better than to add fire to the topic that is culturally very dangerous and if anything, the bigger issue of Spanish-Latin relations are being banalised by attributing the issue to a pop singer (who has, arguably, just as her peers, done a lot more to unite the Hispanic/Latin world and move away from the past and inflammatory rhetorics).

Basically, the past has to be acknowledged, never repeated, anyone who denounces it should be ostracised, but no one should be persecuted because of their ethnicity.

The Colonizer thing doesn't apply here

Merengue is Dominican genre. Even if it is played and made in Colombia (like in all of latinamerica and Spain) both Karol and Rosalia are doing a genre that was stolen from another culture.

That being said. Despechada was one of the most basic Rosalia tracks. IDK why she is acting like she invented something. There must be something  else behind the scenes.

Exactly. We have actual latinos getting kicked out of first world countries like the US and Spain itself, suffering racism and living in fear of the extreme right rising in those countries and people worried about Rosalia dabbling on Reggaeton. They will clap back that they can focus on more than one issue but they are never in the Civics forum here 🫣
