she is european and has stolen borrowed from latin american culture multiple times

yeah and she has done it with respect & taste , has always credited all her inspirations and all the artists that contributed to her songs.

People here saying that Rosalia copied Arca :rip: Tell me you have no clue about Arca's artistry without telling me that

The good sis scammed my money and delayed the shipping of the deluxe vinyl :deadbanana: I don't even bother to ask for another album atm

Rosalia's streams have to be around 65% from Spain alone - she is huge in Spain and they believe she is at Karol G level. Reality: she is not and won't be.

Karol G tour in one city alone (Los Angeles) earned as much as the entire Motomami tour.

No one is saying Rosalia is bigger than Karol G. It's a pretty obvious difference….

Denying Rosalia's impact in current latin music (even if taking from latin references) is what feels stupid. There are latino artists everywhere praising her artistry and working with her. In truth no one cares that she's an european dabbling in our genres and people should take more serious fights to fight about instead of banalizing colonialism with stan bullshit

This is nonsense. She literally hired Shakira's manager. She is signed to Columbia Records.

You can make alternative music and have mainstream success, it's not mutually exclusive :gayorkcat4:

Hispanic/Latin ATRLers, how big is Rosalia in Spain and Latin America? I used to feel like she was huge but her Spotify numbers seem significantly lower than some other artists I think are huge (Maluma, Karol) + her music (to me at least) sounds more cutting edge and alternative than mainstream. Is she a main pop girl or more alt?

Oh, honey, sadly Maluma is seen as a fad in LatAm already

Karol G and Feid are the Latin Royalty right now, Bad Bunny is still the #1 but he has a bad image atm

As for Rosalía, she's huge in Spain but she's also big in LatAm, I mean MOTOMAMI was a big phenomenon on social media and fashion, she played a concert in Mexico City just last year and gathered around 180k people and everyone screamed the lyrics to all the songs, tbh that concert got more media coverage than Karol stadium shows in the country.

Rosalía is one of my favorite new singers and the only Spanish-speaking artist I have really stanned and respected in a long time. I don't like Karol G (she seems generic/basic to me), but Rosalía can't throw shade at Karol G because she's Spanish. Karol G is a Latina from the barrio. From Raudal, from Colombia, a country with a strong Caribbean influence that has also helped shape the salsa and merengue landscape in Latinoamerica

Rosalía is a wealthy / middle-class girl from Catalonia. If anyone has appropriated merengue and latin stuff, it's Rosalía. She better not even try to throw shade porque la mechoneamos y le hacemos como Soraya le hizo al nandito. :giraffe: Las latinas no jugamos. Somos niñas venenosas :gayorkcat2:venganse y yo las ubico.

And no matter how hard they try. Their latin songs will never be as iconic as the ones from :siptea:

If Rosalia is trying to gatekeep a genre-style things will not go well for her. She could be cancelled in Latinoamerica
She better explore music and rhythms from her continent europe :eli:

People posting Loca in here showing that Karol definitely took from Rosalía because Despechá doesn't sound like it at all but Karol's song definitely sounds like Despechá

Merengue being the genre of inspiration from all 3 doesn't seem to be the problem at all. Even other artists who did a merengue inspired song like Después de la Playa don't sound exactly like these other songs.

Don't even like Karol beside that collab with Shakira, but man it makes my blood boil seeing these ignorants claim Rosalía owns that rhythm, or that anyone copied her. But the worst are by far the Latinos siding with that nonsense. What's next? Los hermanos rosario copied Rosalía too?

Posted

I'm not a fan of either of them and maybe those who say that Karol uses merengue because it's popular in Colomia have a point, but..... the song is a total copy of Despechá

It's not that Rosalia invented the merengue, but c'mon Karol, you could have made another type of merengue not copied from another super famous song that was played recently.

All of them fighting over who stole music when they both stole caribbean/dominican music :deadbanana:

"between 1817 and 1867, Catalans were directly or indirectly involved in the transportation of 700,000 slaves from west Africa to the Caribbean Caribbean"

Not a colonizer though, innocent European Queen. :bibliahh:

She hasn't been relevant in México since Despecha, meanwhile Karol's been EVERYWHERE and had multiple hits including her collab with Shakira

So the colonizer followed on x an account that made a thread about Karol G "copying" her... what her dumbass fans that defended her here gonna say now?

Is she trying to imply she invented Merengue or made it a trend?

Becky G did this in 2021 before all of them

I can't believe both Rosalia and Shakira are this jealous at Karol's success, imagine if the anglo MPGs did something like this every time people say one copied the other ?

What does Karol G have to make Shakira jealous?
Shakira is top of the top, a legend status in Spanish world for feeding the market over 4 decades. Karol G isn't. We will see her popularity can last or not after a few years.

In English world and any where else, Shakira is also a A list celebrity and singer. Will Karol G be able to be the SuperBowl headliner or get the MTV Video Vanguard award?

I don't see these happening anytime soon. She can't even get a Hot 100 Top 10 in the US without Shakira or break into US mainstream market, UK, Brazil, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Canada etc. like Shakira did.

We have nothing to be jealous of but portraying Karol G is bigger than Shakira is delusional. She is a mega star in Spanish speaking world right now but it's a no in other countries

Thought Rosalía was better than this, extremely disappointed cuz I love her

Meanwhile the song is climbing up the WW charts, already top 20 on Global Spotify

And you have a delulu ***** in this very thread claiming Cataluña is a colonial territory of Spain because "they want to be free". And you have +10 ******* voting positive that comment lol.

Also, I am from Brazil and Rosalia is definitely considerably more popular than Karol G here. Brazil is an outlier, obviously, but the market for mainstream Latino pop here is minimal, while the alt sound Rosalia does permeates more easily.

A fact:clap3:

Rosalia has a diamond certification in Brazil while Karol G is hungry and failed to break into a non-Spanish Latin market.

Karol G's recent Brazilian show flopped.

And Karol G fans should stop lifting up their fave to Shakira's level because it's nowhere close. I didn't and will probably never see a non-latino or Spaniard Karol G fan in my life.
