Becky G did this in 2021 before all of them I can't believe both Rosalia and Shakira are this jealous at Karol's success, imagine if the anglo MPGs did something like this every time people say one copied the other ? Why would Shakira be jealous of Karol ? Karol has said she wants to reach Shakira's level of fame worldwide… also I think Rosalia has every right to shade Karol since she is always copying her. 7 1 1 3

Karol's signature hits PROVENZA, TUSA, BICHOTA, TQG, EL MAKINON, AMARGURA sounds nothing like Rosalía wtf are y'all on? 4 1 1 1
Cesar Posted June 23 Posted June 23 this PR manufactured beef i find it hard to believe they aren't actually friends on the low
liquiddiamonds Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Rosalia clearly didn't invent merengue, but not people pretending Despecha wasn't big enough to leave a mark. It just crossed 1bi on Spotify lol how many of those merengue songs are doing that? Karol clearly wanted her own take on the sound and she takes clues from Rosalia. I'm latino and it is stupid to suggest artists here are not taking notes from Rosalia as much as their own latino counterparts. She's clearly an innovative artist with mainstream appeal 14 7
period sis Posted June 23 Posted June 23 It's not about being merengue it's about it sounding exactly like Despecha. #TEAMROSI 1 14 3

305 Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Just now, period sis said: It's not about being merengue it's about it sounding exactly like Despecha. #TEAMROSI Literally this and also it's a HUGE reach to even think what she posted is shade. Despecha hit a billion streams just a few days ago which is her only song to do so, she's clearly just still celebrating that. 2

Cheers Posted June 23 Posted June 23 That FRAUD Rosalia used Omega's entire sound and style and then left him out of the track. she can sit down with any copying accusations

It's hilarious I get Karol has been trying to copy some stuff here and there form Rosalia, but this seems like a reach to me. The music Shakira released 14 years ago sounded basically the same. Merengue has just been popular in Colombia for decades 4 1 1
Rainy Devil Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) Like many have said, Merengue has been popular in Colombia for a long time. But I wouldn't be surprised if Rosalia thinks she owns it, like a true colonizer. Edited June 23 by Rainy Devil 9 2

I used to feel like she was huge but her Spotify numbers seem significantly lower than some other artists I think are huge (Maluma, Karol) + her music (to me at least) sounds more cutting edge and alternative than mainstream. Is she a main pop girl or more alt? After Motomami she's definitely a MPG in here, before that she just had Con Altura and the reggaeton collabs, but she was yet to stand by herself
liquiddiamonds Posted June 24 Posted June 24 It's crazy how this forum fights over the global influence of every anglo superstar and wouldn't blink an eye if latino artists were to drop Taylor Swift as an influence on their music but european Rosalia is where they draw the line as an impossibility in having impact lol 1 1 1

Don't nobody requesting Saoko or Chicken Teriyaki to their DJs. 5

Of course her album tracks aren't played at the clubs (aside from Despecha), but Saoko, Hentai and Bizcochito were meme songs all over social media
