Artists with a lethal GH compilation but piss-poor albums?

What are the artists who couldn't put a good album together if their lives depended on it, but have an amazing GH compilation?

Celine comes to mind, no shade.

Also, I was listening to Robbie Williams' Greatest Hits album and, whew, it was excellent for the most part. God-tier British pop. You couldn't pay me to listen to one of his albums tho.

Well if Katy Perry release a greatest hits record it might be her most (the only) cohesive album to date. she might as well get a 62 on Metacritic, a new career height in Tawni Hart of pop's career!

Everything from cheesy soundtracks packed with filler to spoken word comedy "albums" :rip: It's a mess.

Unfortunately a lot of the older female legends have discographies like this. I'm thinking Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Cher, Barbra Streisand…

It's just how it was back in the day. The women and their music were treated purely as products, made for cheap consumption with quick turnarounds between records. Disposable cover versions in lieu of proper new tracks, or just very obvious singles tacked on to an extra 5-6 filler tracks.

Small shout-out to Donna Summer and Aretha for still managing to make some great albums during this time.

Also, I've been getting into Elton through his first two GHs. They're fantastic, but I have no interest in checking out his albums. I've heard some horror stories about those. :rip:

What a strange take. I can give you that BOMT (album) sounds of its time and you have to be in this nostalgic mood to listen to it. I admit I never listen to it these days but it was certainly not a bad album. It's always been considered a great album.

The following albums Oops and Britney are amazing, even besides the singles. There are bops and gems and they still sound great today.

OT: To me the best example for this thread would be Rihanna. Everyone knows and loves a lot of her hits but the albums were almost all rushed.

Not when OTW and Thriller exist.

:rogue:

His post-Dangerous work is probably best enjoyed in a compilation tho.

No, it isn't? :rip: It would've gotten a 51 if MC existed in 1999. I'll give you Oops and Britney, which are solid, but GH:MP still gives you a solid rundown of her teen-pop work.

ITZ is the only one LP of her first four that you have to listen in full to get the gist.

Britney Spears. I deleted all her albums a long time ago and replaced it with her GH. The hits is all I need when it comes to her.

^ I use this one as it's more complete than My Prerogative.

lot of legends are singles acts and that's completely fine. Sometimes couple singles are worth more than entire discographies. Whitney comes to mind.
