réveuse Posted June 16 Posted June 16 The critically acclaimed album that doesn't make fun of mental illness. 2 3
Europe Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Yes, that's what we needed. Yet another Taylor Swift thread. 1 1
Kayseri Mantisi Posted June 16 Posted June 16 The critically acclaimed album that's not a failed Lana wannabe.

In Fortnight, she has an asylum aesthetic, despite the fact that being in an asylum is a horror, and she, a privileged billionaire, is here creating an aesthetic out of it. Hell, Taylor Nation even tweeted this awful tweet right here. And in a song, she outs Joe's depression, knowing how private he is and how rabid her fanbase is. 5

thatsmydemi Posted June 16 Posted June 16 TTPD has this: You smokеd, then ate seven bars of chocolate We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist So Brat wins by default. 1
Bartender Posted June 16 Posted June 16 BRAT is not only better but one of Charli's best written projects to date TTPD has very few highlights but a number of songs on the album fall flat because of stale metaphors and concepts BRAT is better than PTSD in every way so don't try it 1
TayDuaStan Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Can we even call BRAT's lyrics, songwriting? It's just a bunch of noises & gibberish 5
Cheers Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Okay enough. We get it! Taylor is an evil BRAT! but Taylor is obviously the better lyricist
Loca Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Both are pretty bad, I'd say. I'm still voting for BRAT because I don't get the feeling it's trying to impress on the writing department, unlike the album with the word poetry in its title.

EnigmaticAndroid Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) Brat. The whole issue with The Lukewarm Leftovers Department is that the songs feel like a bunch of aggressively verbose couplets shoved together. The melodies are collectively her weakest and feel monotonous. The lyrics tend to feel clunky in the context of a song. The swings in tone meet mixed results. Songwriting is more than just words on a page. Brat, while not especially highbrow or trying to be super refined or poetic lyrically, nails what it's going for. The writing is instantly catchy, memorable, varied, and delves into specific/personal topics (weighing motherhood, comparing yourself to a female peer, the death of Sophie) in ways that feel substantial and affect the audience, which is in itself successful storytelling. modeblock Posted June 16 Posted June 16 the one that didn't forget they were making a pop record. Taylor, we needed melodies to go along with the verbose lyrics - and they simply were not there. For 'Sympathy is a knife' alone, BRAT wins this one for me
iamanearthling Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Are people seriously delulu? of course TTPD. some of her best work in there.
