Nonsense was a shameless use of this feature, but you can't autoplay all of that. Please x3, Espresso, and Feather are all viral smashes. BUT with that being said, yeah Spotify & labels need to chill a bit with this feature tbh. Espresso and Birds of a Feather are literally terrorizing me after every. single. song/album. that I play. Sure, I love both songs and I do listen to similar music but it's getting a bit ridiculous. The other day I was also using my brother's account in the car and Birds randomly started playing and he doesn't even **** with Billie or any MPG music. This fair and measured take get on the Apple Music train though sister, you only have to listen to what you want to

So Autoplay on Spotify obviously has an impact on people and charts where Spotify is main platform to consume music. I used YouTube and Pleasex3 comes in every random autoplay playlist everytime.
Communion Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I must have my settings on like Fort Knox or something because I know autoplay exists but I've never experienced it. When I play from an album or a playlist and it ends, it just... re-starts the album or playlist for me. Does it happen with the radio feature or something?

If you have "replay" (the little box with an arrow at the end that's next to the skip button) turned on it won't autoplay anything and will just loop whatever you have playing currently. I always have that on so I never get any of that either ddd. But I think users who don't have premium can't do that at all so they're at the mercy of autoplay more 1

Lüwís Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I've pressed on ignore this song around 10 times now after it's automatically added to my queue and it still comes back. It's infuriating. I don't know how many times I have to hint to Spotify that I don't like that song, I don't like her and I don't like any of her music. She's not my cup of tea yet she's being rammed down my throat constantly. Same as she-who-must-not-be-named. 2

Letemtalk Posted June 16 Posted June 16 20 hours ago, conquxror said: But my thing is, I don't see how autoplay is THAT different from paying for your song to be on heavy rotation on the radio, for example. I feel like that's just a record label trying to make a song a hit, which, in my opinion, is a good thing - and literally their job??. Sabrina was paid dust on Hollywood Records, even though she has major star quality: can sing, dance, great personality, she's entertaining to watch... Now, she has a label that's investing in her. The difference is back in the day there was radio payola, but the artist and label made most of their money from sales and you couldn't force people to buy your record. But now you can get a stream if a metal or rap fan listens to an autoplay song for 30 seconds. These days we have: - radio payola. - streaming autoplay helping some artists and we don't really know which ones except the most obvious cases. - pure sales are dead except for fans who can afford to buy multiple versions of physical records and albums, even though 50% don't have a record player to play their expensive vinyl collection. Is there anything real in the charts anymore? Perhaps this would be fine if this gave more power to the artists. From the NME article: "[Spotify] charge a commission on streams funnelled through Discovery mode." Sabrina is signed to Universal for both her recording contract and her publishing contract and Universal is also a part owner of Spotify, so maybe it's good for the label and good for Spotify, and yes maybe some of our faves can do this too if the record label lets them, which might mean more money for the labels and more commission payments to Spotify. But on average the artists will be getting less for their streams. 1
Jay L Posted June 16 Posted June 16 16 hours ago, Kiss It Better said: the real question is why do people still use autoplay when you can just turn it off in the settings? it's 2024 come on now and if it's because you use free account then get premium it's 2024, student subscription is like half the price too Tbh most people probably don't know/think to change the settings or are too lazy(like myself lol)
Trainwreck Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Birds of a Feather also has shameless autoplay, I even have to block her during my gym time because it keeps coming up and messes up my mood 1

Twitter vibes don't matter in the real world, look at Normani, all these viral tweets yet the album barely made 2m on it's debut day
rihannasbe$tfrnd Posted June 16 Posted June 16 IDK why Spotify keeps playing that trash, like baby I don't listen to her and I don't want to the way they're shoving down our throats, everything about her "success" is so fake.
Margaux Posted June 16 Posted June 16 as a fan. i came into terms that my fave is fraudulent but her album will smash that's all that matters to me.
Cain Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I don't notice this cause I literally never ever just let Spotify play random songs I either listen to albums or playlists
Kill Me Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) Espresso and PPP being autoplayed was fine since people were atleast talking about it and it was smashing on AM and YouTube. But, BOAF by Billie autoplays after every single song and playlist despite it making no noise anywhere. Where is the NME article for that? Edited June 16 by Miss Americana 2

You can't buy social media attention. Yes that was the point of the auto play force the earworm, build the status, generate the conversation she is doing all the things, hot girl, hot song, hot video, hot celebrity boyfriend, were seen this formula before and we have seen it work before 1
Homebrand Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Absolutely. I actually HATE Espresso now because it is always the next song on autoplay.

We are simply in the era of autoplay now, every major hit is being pushed heavily using this feature (for MPGs this year I've had Fortnight, WCBF, Texas Hold 'Em, and recently Espresso and BOAF). It doesn't mean their success is fabricated. Actually it seems like the bigger the hit, the more push it gets from Spotify. In a month or so, the next big smash will be released & everyone will complain about that song being spammed on autoplay too Other than anecdotal evidence Do you have any numbers to proof Fortnight was on heavy autoplay? I wish it was but it wasn't. It had normal autoplay at best but wasn't plasted everywhere and Spotify numbers proofs that Taylor songs never have unnatural rise except All of the girls which was on autoplay for second week
