Right this is so random, this was due back in 1986. Out of all things to certify :rip: but I think today's it's 38th anniversary. True Blue coming for a certification in a few weeks?

By the late 80s only a few singles were certified per year. Probably less than 10. They even had to lower the standards by 1988. Before that, a single that sold one million copies was only certified Gold, not Platinum.

Singles didn't sell like that back in the day. It probably sold more overseas.
