26% of Gen Z applicants are bringing their parents to their job interviews

Resume Templates survey found that 26 percent of the Gen Z respondents actually involve their parents in the interview process; 31 percent of those respondents had a parent accompany them to an in-person interview and 29 percent had them join a virtual interview.

For those that said they had a parent come with them to an in-person interview, 37 percent of respondents said they had their mom or dad come into the office, and 26 percent of respondents said one of their parents physically sat in the room while the interview took place.

For those that said they had a parent near them during a virtual interview, 71 percent said their parent was off camera, while 29 percent said their parent was visible on camera.

The majority of on-camera parents spoke directly to the hiring manager, according to the survey.

"It's understandable, parents wanting to ensure that their child does well in an interview or that an employer is reputable. Conversely, it's hard to see where a parent being directly involved in an interview is appropriate," executive resume writer Andrew Stoner told Resume Templates. "It does not signal confidence to a hiring company on behalf of the child. I recommend a 'help at a distance' approach of being available and advising the child during the recruiting process."

Gen Z ATRLers, do you bring your parents with you to your job interviews?

Gen Z is 28-13 right now.

It's funny cuz so many old people used to play us videos in class about how stupid millenials are or tell me i'm a millenial as an insult and no we're Gen Z b*tch. :cm:

How is that even possible? Do interviewers actually allow other people to be in the room?

As a 20 year old Gen Z I don't think this is true. None of my friends would ever do this either :rip:

The way this reads, it almost seems like they mean that 26% are in touch with a parent for advice on a resume or something, at a minimum, and only 31% of THOSE 26%, so 8% of the total, are bringing a parent physically. Even that sounds so unrealistically high that I have to assume they're counting, like, asking a parent to drive you or something.

I've heard this happening, but why would you ever do that as a parent, shooting your kid in the food :skull:

does it count if it was my mom that had to drag my lazy ass to an interview because i didn't wanna do it even though i was actually very qualified for it?

suffice to say, i aced the interview and got the job but would i rather just stayed home and slept?

yes

I heard it about kids who are like 15-17 or people who are applying for an apprenticeship.

But yeah, as an employer I would consider ppl who bring their parents with them a lot less:gaycat6:

I wouldn't be surprised, tbh. So many of the Gen Z candidates applying for positions in my department at my company do NOT know how to properly format a resume, dress for a job interview, write professionally, etc. They are NOT being prepared for the real world.

Lol. I believe it. We have a couple Gen Z now at my workplace, and my god, they are insufferable. One reported me to their supervisor for asking her to do a task (that is a normal, daily task of theirs) because I didn't send a please and thank you in the message. The youth is NOT okay. Lmao

One of my gen z coworker's parents followed our VP on LinkedIn because my coworker told their mom the VP was rude to them.... I can't even make this up. I checked to verify.

No way this is real, if the statistics was about parents driving their kids etc, it couldve been believeble, but the parents being in the actual interview, no, thats not happening at those large scales, and I actually interview Gen Zs for jobs in my department.

I bring my friends or my mom to exams since most of the exams are oral in my country. Some professors might abuse their power over here and try to twist things. I don't think it's needed for a job interview though.

do they mean bring a parent inside with them or like have a parent drive them there cause those are two different things lol
