I'm now mid to late act2, finishing the companion choices.

Harding's was kinda lackluster from both a dramatic/narrative/cinematic perspective, as well as from a combat/walkthrough perspective.

Taash's was really good with a good dramatique punch, and Bellara's was kinda heartbreaking.

Finished Emmerich's one and it was the most ON THEME mission ever. It brought me the most enjoyment, and the walkthrough was creative too.

Johana was cartoonish, but cartoonish WELL DONE.

I still have 4 chests in the Grand Necropolis that I cannot seem to find and I am FUMING. I managed to get 100% on the Crossroads, Arlathan and Rivaini Coast so far.

I'm playing as a Grey Warden elf and I feel like this is such a main character combo of faction x lineage.

I wanna do a second run where I play more seriously / don't choose only the "good" choices for my companions but I don't want to do the same combo. I'm thinking a Qunari mage Mournwatch

what i will say is that emmrich is fantastic and the best companion by far for me. the romance was so beautiful & sweet, i'd DIE for our son manfred also my rook losing her virginity in a coffin in the middle of the necropolis was so iconic

!!! Also im tired of people continuously referring to the big 3 as "Gods" when Solas himself says they are NOT Gods.

 

Random but I wonder if Golems are just mini versions of what the Titans looked like? Especially since we now know Lyrium is Titan blood

 

 

 

Replaying as a Warrior Qunari Grey Warden. Why do the Qunari lowkey have the most handsome faces  . I can't picture my Qunari romancing none of these punk men tho!! And he isn't diving into no pwoosy either sorryyyyy he's a true MASC GAY. 

 

The new hair mechanics are so good. I'm tempted to play as a female Rook just to have a buss down middle part  but I only played a female in DA:O just because I wanted Alistair! On that, I really wish every character wasn't bisexual. Give us some heteros! Hell throw in some homophobes!!!

I started my second playthrough as a Qunari Mournwatch mage (planning to go Death Caller). I still think male elves got the best mugs to be honest, but my 2nd Rook is handsome too. They were so stupid when they put that ugly Qunari in the promotional stuff. It's so easy to add scars, some tattoos and one of the rugged / tired complexions to create a "realistic" Qunari look.

Ranking the companions after my first playthrough (subjective, based on my choices):

 

7. Neve - she is a great conversationalist and has nice subtle banter, but her character quest is just not giving anything. We fight Venatori all throughout the game since the tutorial part, and in the end

she doesn't even get to kill, or make a choice whether to kill Aelia or send her to prison (pragmatic from the shadows vs hero who goes the 'legal' way). I would have also loved if Aelia managed to kill one or both of: the Threads guy and the Templars girl. It would have added more gravitas + giving her a mental breakdown scene a la Inquisitor when he was faced with what to do the Inquisition and chose the angry option - if you know, you know.

6. Harding - her personality low key gave teenage girl in some moments, which indicates me that they had no idea what to do with her. Her character quest starts off pretty strong but ends up underwhelming

ok maybe "the stone" being her repressed feelings that she buried under her bubbliness is not that bad and from a narrative perspective a case could be made for it, but from a quest design perspective, the 3rd mission is really just getting 3 dwarves out of stone, and then fighting the boss who happens to be the enraged version of her. She ate that ONE thing when you can sacrifice her in act 3, it's kind of a fitting end for a 'hero'

Plus, she easily get outshined by

5. Lucanis - maybe I need to romance him to get more out of his quest, but

they basically just made Spite be an unruly pet/ upset teenager. I'm mostly upset that given the fact that he is in the Antivan Crow's, he cannot decide Illario's faith in the last character quest.. he literally gets made First Talon, but Illario is just shoo-ed away from the duelling. Again - opportunity to open up a choice, and to have him automatically k1ll Illario if he is hardened (my opinion)

He's above the other two because he has narrative importance in fighting the gods, and for his "banter" with Davrin

 

4. Bellara - she was kinda giving annoying FAD, but the emotional moments

with regards to her brother, and the tragedy in her last character quest when you have to fight Anaris and Cyrian dies no matter what even though she got through him and made him see the error of her ways + funeral scene, and her having to make an important decision about the Archive Plus the Anaris fight actually entertained me. Also, her getting 'blighted' by Elgar'nan in act 3 makes so much more sense than it happening to Neve - the CONOTATIONS, especially since she was in shock that the villains were our own (my 1st Rook was elf) gods of old.

3. Emmrich - him being a necromancer who goes against type

by having a certain reverence and respect for the dead, his kindness, softness and intelectual side + his fear of his own death/mortality make him a really great companion. His insecurity about the possibility of becoming a Lich + having to make an actual relevat CHOICE between reviving Manfred or pursuing LICHDOM only added to my enjoyment of him. Also, Johanna being actual CAMP excellence (not sure if she was acting at the behest of the gods, but she definitely did not need to be "pushed" by their influence to be awful & evil. And I do not even need to mention TABSfred.

2. Taash - them not kissing your ass when you two first meet was so refreshing.

I loved how her character quests showcased how split they were with their identity on multiple fronts, struggling against meeting the expectations of their mother + final boss fight & fighting a dragon. The intro scene vs Antaam is BADASS, and the voice acting was SOOO on point. Props to the VA

1. Davrin - being a Grey Warden,

struggling with his role as a 'father' for Assan, him feeling improper about how much of a Grey Warden he is because he didn't die when he stabbed the archdemon. The contrast of him being a hunter juxtaposed with the way he flirts and how his romance evolves. "Thrill of the chase"Unique villain with a backstory who related to the Warden identity crisis he also faces at some point + the boss fight in itself. 

 

The MCG ( main companion girl) JUMPED OUT.

 

He will never be sacrificed in act 3 in any of my future playthroughs

Him having a no-nonsense attitude + his 'banter' with Lucanis

You can tell Lucanis writer was changed midway or something . Never was constantly shoved down our throats but she's cool. They're all fine honestly I guess! But we've had stronger companions. DA:II probably the worst tho.

You can move the enchantment to another item or choose another enchantment for said item so the initial one will be available for something else.

I've come to realize that Davrin really has the best face card in this game. Harding comes close but she's acting way too corny for her BIG age.

Not Harding dying when you choose her to lead the second team on the island despite the marked status... And you're led into thinking that choosing her is correct. But it made for a more impactful outcome due to its suddenness, with Taash romancing her and everything.
