They are inarguably the two biggest pop girls that have emerged on the scene since the MPGs of the late 2000s.

But ever since her debut, Billie seems to have had the upper hand whenever both women put out new projects close to each other, at least when it comes to commercial stats. In terms of Spotify streams…

 

'don't smile at me' is bigger than 'Sweetener'.

'WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?' is bigger than 'thank u, next'.

'Happier Than Ever' is (slightly) bigger than 'Positions'.

And now 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT' seems to have a stronger initial chart performance than 'eternal sunshine' as well.

 

 

So would you say that Billie Eilish has surpassed Ariana Grande?

Or is Ariana still the bigger star in 2024? And if so, do you think that Billie is closing in on her or not?

Yes, in pretty much every aspect besides "pop radio hits", and Billie's hits are having better longevity anyway.

ariana has more #1s, more top 10s, more charting hits in general, and more #1 albums

 

im also pretty sure ariana has sold more equivalent units and has a higher touring gross?

Billie has maybe two or three hits that the GP would recognize. Ariana has more than 10. Album sales aren't everything.

i think generally speaking yes, Ariana is much bigger with pop radio hits. I know some of you will throw Ariana's #1 songs but jfyk Billie isnt about song peaks, she's all about stability in the streaming era. Billie already surpassed her in solo streams with just 3 albums, plus HMHAS era just started.

Ariana is on her seventh album and has more of a legacy than Billie. Billie is young and talented artist, but Ariana has proven to be a legendary pop star and how her sound inspired others in the industry. You see her impact when people say Sabrina nonsense sounds like an Ari song or when Tate McRae lists Ari as an influence. Billie definitely will have a legacy and on her way to, but Ariana been in the business longer, so seems unfair to compare them.

Yes, Billie is on track to be one of the most respected artists of all time. Two oscars, multiple grammys and she's not even 25 yet? Almost a legend

Yes.  DSAM and Fall Asleep are bigger than any Ariana album and HMHAS will join them. HTE has so far already outsold Positions/YT/Sweetener and is on track to outsell DW/TUN if Billie keeps up her amazing recurrents. It really isn't close atp.

No  Ariana has been consistently successful for 7 albums/a decade.

 

Billie's doing incredibly well and she is easily the biggest Gen Z artist, but she hasn't "surpassed" her yet. Not in total units. Not in hits. She has more respect/recognition by the industry though, but that's a whole other story and you could say she surpassed some veterans in that aspect as well.

Overall, not yet but she's on her way to surpassing others artists, not just Ariana, nor any other women, all other artists, if the incline is as consistent as this.
