airplane Posted June 5 Posted June 5 (edited) Quote Instagram is beta testing a new feature called an ad break. As far as I know, this affects both stories and posts. When you're scrolling through your feed, you'll suddenly find your feed "hitting the bottom", you won't be able to go any further. A small thing at the botton shows up saying Ad break, during this time you have to scroll up or down to find an ad and stare at it. Once you do a timer will start running from 6 seconds to 0. During these six seconds, you have to stare at an ad. Mark Zuckerberg, the money hungry PIG that you are Link to reddit post with details: Spoiler Edited June 5 by airplane 1 3
Trent W Posted June 5 Posted June 5 (edited) Instagram is becoming unusable The user experience has nosedived in the last 3 years Tik tok has also been abusing ads but at least you can skip them Edited June 5 by Trent W 7
Kern Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I'm glad all these apps are ruined because it makes me use them less 7 1
Popular Post LustSpell Posted June 5 Popular Post Posted June 5 The day we have chips implanted and can scroll the net via our minds... there will be ads in that too. What a hellscape we've entered 3 15
Donquizote Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Does anyone still use instagram? This is its final nail in the coffin.
Capris Groove Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Fabulous! TikTok next please. The tide is turning against social media. I really think people are getting bored of it.
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted June 5 ATRL Moderator Posted June 5 I'm sure my AdGuard will evade this 1 1
concubine Posted June 5 Posted June 5 (edited) Will this kill it though? The app gets worse and worse every day but no one wants to ditch it. When I deleted my account after high school it was surprisingly hard to make friends or keep in touch with people. After a hundred people asked me for my Instagram I caved last year and made an account again, it seems inescapable Edited June 5 by concubine 2
KingWitch Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Makes sense ,they need to monetize these apps to some extent to justify how much they spend on them .

imabadkid Posted June 5 Posted June 5 (edited) 11 minutes ago, Onyxmage said: Its literally more popular than TikTok (worldwide). QuoteInstagram has nearly 1.5 billion monthly active users, according to Sensor Tower, with TikTok at just over 1.1 billion. However, TikTok has more active users, who spend an average of 95 minutes a day on the app, compared with 62 minutes for Instagram. 1 hour ago, flower moon said: poor people that still use insta. hard times yeah I'm over IG. Galah Posted June 5 Posted June 5 genuine question - has anyone here ever seen an ad for something interrupting the media they are actually trying to consume and been like, "Oh, gee I might go out and buy that now?" it usually just makes me hate their product I know that this is such a rudimentary take on advertising because obviously it's such a huge industry, but I genuinely don't understand how it works if I didn't know any better I'd think it was just an elaborate money laundering scheme or something. 4

Instagram has become a cesspool in the recent years and i love it. it's much less strict than TikTok and pretty much anything but straight up p*rn is allowed

People on tik tok just use it longer which makes sense because its video based. IG is still very popular. People saying this is the final nail in the coffin are delusional. 3
JoeAg Posted June 5 Posted June 5 this really sucks tbh I'm ready for instagram to go down the drain. it stresses me out far more than any other social medium atp because people are GLUED to it. I hate how THAT'S how I have to advertise my music for people to listen to it lmao, and I HATE feeling incompetent when my single announcements get more likes than the day-of single release posts I do
liquiddiamonds Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Instagram has been going out sad. I've only been using it for DMs and some friends stories who just post there and not elsewhere. It was annoying the **** out of me how I get more ads than posts or how I need to watch one add for each friend that posts a story (at least those are skippable). Now these Ad breaks will make sure no one uses the dying feed anymore. They should focus on enhancing their Reels algorithm because it just doesn't hand content as well as TkTk
