Former President Donald Trump's campaign and the Republican Party raised $34.8 million in the six hours after Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts in his "hush money" trial, the campaign said Friday, a staggering total that represents nearly half of what they raised in the entire month of April.

This should have been expected. He has the known richest man in the world in his corner.

Is it a backfire? There wasn't a chance that wouldn't happen with any of his cases, his base tried to do a gofundme for the border wall that Steve Bannon pretty much stole. By that logic you'd basically be advocating that trump never be tried for anything ever

Everyone knew this was going to happen. Hardly an unexpected backfire.

This isn't a backfire. This was expected.

This just makes his fans look even MORE stupid. They are always complaining about the price of things and the economy but they have enough money to donate to a supposed billionaire? Make it MAKE SENSE. :ahh:

A million for each felony!

"backfire" implies that the goal was to damage his campaign. The goal was just to hold him accountable for crimes he committed.

Expected.

I mean I'm not surprised by this at all but if he's barred from running, no money will help him become President so the Trumpsters are just further filling the pockets of this billionaire man, further proving how deluded these people are :dies:

Unfortunately, he's not barred from running.

Trump was found guilty. Can he still run for president or vote as a convicted felon?

Can Trump still run for president after his conviction?

Yes. The U.S. Constitution upholds the principle that voters decide who should represent them, and its qualifications are limited to natural-born citizenship, age (35 by Inauguration Day) and residency in the United States (14 years).

Convicted felons have run for president in the past. Lyndon LaRouche was convicted in 1988 of tax and mail fraud conspiracy and ran for president multiple times between 1976 and 2004. Eugene Debs was convicted of violating the Espionage Act of 1917 for an anti-war speech, then ran for president under the Socialist Party banner from a federal prison in Alabama in 1920.

I get that some of you may have expected this, but based on some in that Trump found guilty thread here, and elsewhere I've seen, some seem to think this was some nail in the coffin or something. It's not.

I fully support and think Trump should have been held accountable. But this didn't end anything, the real test is in November because he can just make all this go away if he wins.

Further, Repukes and conservatives who bought into this being a rigged trial or witch hunt have only been roused by this and have added energy to Trump's campaign. And could very well translate to a bump in the polls for Trump depending on who this plays out.

In that sense, and according to liberals and Dems thinking this conviction hurts Trump, this is very much a backfire.

Not a soul with a brain thinks this is a nail in the coffin. It is deliberation how much it will hurt him. Even a 1% drop in support is significant at this close of an election. Him having more money he is gonna use to pay his legal fees instead of actually do something meaningful to help him won't actually help him
