808dream Posted June 2 Posted June 2 What does one person has to do to be considered ineligible? If all this, the Washington DC riots and the rape allegations are not enough to keep someone off the presidentials run I'm genuinely asking what one must do to be considered ineligible? Shooting someone? Or is it also OK if it's all about Trumpet?

(Trump was impeached twice, but acquitted both times by the Senate.) 14th Amendment: Commit insurrection or rebellion against the U.S. after taking an oath to support the U.S. Constitution. (Trump took an oath to support the Constitution when he became president, but after individual states tried to remove Trump from the ballot, the Supreme Court decided in March that only Congress can decide that Trump is ineligible to run for president due to the 14th Amendment.) 22nd Amendment: Reach the 2-term limit. Shooting someone would not make Trump ineligible for presidency unless it causes him to satisfy one of these conditions.

Stimulus Posted June 2 Posted June 2 1 hour ago, 808dream said: So are Senate and SC actually saving his axx for some unknown reason? The Senate saved Trump because there were too many Republican senators who voted to acquit him. For Trump to be convicted in an impeachment trial, the supermajority (over 2/3) of the Senate needs to vote to convict him. There are 100 seats in the Senate, so 67 senators are needed. During the first impeachment trial, 51 of the 53 Republican senators voted to halt the trial before calling witnesses and Trump was acquitted. The second impeachment trial made it past the witness phase and 57 senators (48 Democrats, 7 Republicans, and 2 independents) voted to convict Trump. That's less than 67, so he was acquitted again. On the other hand, the Supreme Court decision for Trump v. Anderson was unanimous. All 9 justices decided that the Constitution doesn't allow states to disqualify candidates for federal offices using that part of the 14th Amendment. Instead, the decision lies with Congress. Republicans currently have a majority in the House of Representatives, so the 14th Amendment isn't a practical way to disqualify Trump. The moral of the story is: it all comes down to voting. Votes for the president matter, but so do votes for members of Congress and every other elected official. 1

We are lucky in Brazil that a Supreme Court justice had the balls to determine that Bolsonaro is ineligible for attempts to undermine democracy, I'm guessing you could make the argument in US Courts that Trump should be ineligible but that would never hold up due to an extremelly polarize and Republican Supreme Court. 1

Being a convicted felon probably won't play well for him with these voters. 1

And? the Biden campaign also had their best 24 hour fundraising after the verdict too. Maybe not as much as trumps campaign but still. This was going to happen no matter what the verdict was. its what they are using these funds for. And so far Trump campaign has been spending them on his legal bills and such. 🤷
GhostBox Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Bumping this because people need to reminded that Trump is a convicted felon 🎉🎉
