Why do we expect celebrities to talk about political conflicts abroad?

They are afraid of saying the wrong thing

It's mob mentality. Besides stans usually have very poor mental health (myself included).

You must be new to ATRL.

People on here rush to make a thread when their fave posts "Black Lives Matter"

People on here rush to make a thread when their fave waves a rainbow flag, even when it's a show outside the United States.

This is a political conflict "abroad" where UK and American bombs are dropped on civilians, almost all paid for with American money, and in the last few days the US and the UK also bombed Yemen, one of the poorest countries in the world.

Of course if goes without saying that many if not most of the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which are one of the major issues driving the conflict, are funded by the United States.

But as long as the people being killed, and human rights violations are happening "abroad" our faves should turn a blind eye?

In 2022, the Grammys had an award show where they invited the Prime Minister of Ukraine to join the show by video, so the United States music industry could all show how much they supported him. Then all of our faves that were there that year, applauded the white man who was fighting against invasion and occupation.

I don't remember people complaining much about that award show spending time on a political conflict abroad.

Some stans have even created articles on wikipedia about the political impact of their fave.

I don't remember anyone complaining about this and saying "oh no this isn't true, she has no impact".

I'm sure there are Monsters and Swifties that pray every night for the end of the ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza, but not because they care about the Palestinians who are getting bombed while sheltering in tents in Rafah. They are worried that if their fave makes a statement supporting the Palestinians, their fave might lose a very small percentage of the privilege they have acquired, as a wealthy white woman in the music industry.

Perhaps it might even affect the chart performance and number of awards won, which are the only things they really care about.
