Trump tells donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests if re-elected

Donald Trump has told a group of wealthy donors that he will crush pro-Palestinian on university campuses if he is returned to the White House.

The former president and presumptive Republican nominee called the demonstrations against Israel's war in Gaza part of a "radical revolution" and promised the predominantly Jewish donors that he would set the movement back 25 or 30 years if they helped him beat Joe Biden in November's presidential election.

"If you get me re-elected, we're going to set that movement back 25 or 30 years," Trump replied, according to the Washington Post, which first reported the event.

Trump also said his administration would expel any foreign students found to be taking part in the protests, which have recently taken the form of tented encampments in colleges across the US.

Addressing the meeting in New York on 14 May, Trump heard one donor complain that many of the students and faculty academics taking part in the protests could, in future, hold positions of power in the US.

He praised New York police for clearing the encampments at Columbia University and said the approach should be emulated by other cities, adding: "It has to be stopped now."

Republicans have increasingly sought to make the campus protests an election issue, depicting them as a manifestation of "chaos" rampaging unchecked on Biden's watch.

Damn a monster vs another monster

The US is screwed with any option winning in November

3rd party or any other option is the only way out

I wish people understood that those trying to leverage their vote against Biden to get him to stop enabling genocide do not need convincing that Trump is a monster. These people are already why Biden won in 2020 and whom would never consider voting for Republicans to begin with. Most normies do not leverage their votes - they either believe in voting or don't. 3rd party voters are already highly engaged voters. Anyone trying to protest is already a highly active voter who understands Trump is bad.

The failure of these conversations is Biden seeing so many of his reliable; most engaged voters leveraging an ultimatum yet telling voters not to vote for him because he finds Israel more important of an issue than winning.

You would just say anything to elect that man :dies:  First it was the advocating to not vote at all, now it's to stay quiet on Trump as he strolls into his second presidency.

God forbid someone made a thread on Trump threatening to crush the pro Palestine movement and turn Gaza into a parking lot while also suggesting that Biden has been too generous for them in comparison to what he has in mind.

The protesters are screwed either way. Biden also CRUSHED the protests. Remember how the students are/were treated? So not much is going to change…

Would you like for me to link the photo the babies Israel beheaded just within the last 48 hours to understand why the posturing of "guys you don't get it, Trump is gonna be EVEN WORSE" is an ineffective exercise in stopping Trump?

This is a point of existential moral crisis for Democrats. Deferring to Trump isn't working anymore. Action is required now. A pivot must be made.

He's just following in Biden's footsteps is all. Biden's actions (or lack of) have enabled Trump to confidently say this.

Biden inspired him to commit more genocide.

Well you begging to "please stop making threads about poor Trump because I already closed my eyes!1!" isn't exactly gonna stop him from thirsting for blood of Palestinian children, will it

You again have no understanding how the average American views politics or how they approach elections. You seemingly don't even know how Biden won in 2020 to begin with.

Biden is already deeply unpopular to normies and you're advocating for knee-capping his largest activist base that flipped states like Arizona for him.

This partisanship is toxic. You are helping Trump win. You are going to look back on what you defended with embarrassment and shame.

Democrats' progressive activist base is not going to phonebank and register people to vote while bombarded with imagery of babies set on fire from 2k lb bombs.

"Thoughts and prayers" for repeated massacres with no action eventually makes Democrats no different than Republicans after every mass shooting.

The gaslighting in this thread. "God" forbid Trump wins and I have to endure 50+ years of people arguing about whose fault it is that our lives went from bad, to significantly worse.

Nothing new for us to be shocked at.  Trump would promise to nuke half of the world if that made him more likely to be elected.

So you get to choose between two flavors of supporting a genocide/the repression of the condemnation of said genocide. American politics at a new low. The Democratic Party should die of shame.

If the average American is indifferent after everything that has happened in the past 8 years, maybe the approach should change.

Me being embarrassed and having a crumb of self reflection in the future would actually be a step above the position that people like you took after the 2016 election, completely excluding themselves from the responsibility for electing Trump and allowing him to put people in lifetime positions of power. It's crazy to me that that's even possible. But you treat it so casually, got those dems that time for sure :ace:

I'm not American, as you like to remind me, so yes I continue learning new quirks every day but that doesn't change the fact that you live in a bubble as well.
