Uh oh guys, the joke police are here

(yes this applies to Taylor attacking the Ginny & George writers, even though that joke was most definitely rooted in outdated misogynistic views)

The writing went woosh over your (and her) head. It was supposed to be that the comment (not a joke) was bad. Like, that was the entire premise of it. A character saying something insensitive they shouldn't say that in context is understood to be insensitive and something you shouldn't say.

The fact that she didn't get it at the time was bad enough. But all these years later and y'all still going on about it...

Like, you can actually see some of the context here, it wasn't supposed to be a haha joke and the character wasn't painted as in the right for saying it.

OT: I think they're laughing at how ridiculous it is to say "shut up and make me a sandwhich" in 2024. Like, I'm guessing that's the context of why they find such a bad and old joke so hilarious. It's just a bad look, but I don't think it's actually misogynistic.

Overall, I think they need to leave political correctness behind and stand on their toes with what they believe. If they truly don't agree with what he said, then don't go "but he's a good person, it's just his religion." Because that's privileged and insensitive. And no one can be a good person while being homophobic and misogynistic. If they don't GAF just say that, don't try to soften it with "but I don't agree with it." This wishy washy attitude of trying to appease both sides pisses people off more than silence. I think if they had said "well, he's a teammate and I have to work with him, so even if I disagree with what he said, I don't really want to comment on it further" or literally nothing at all it would've been better.

ATRL clutching their pearls over misogynistic jokes as if they didn't just come from one thread making them and about to run into another thread to laugh react to them once they leave this one is crazy.

I'm shocked they offered so much grace to him given how that speech was dripping in uber conservative propaganda and transphobia.

I think most sane women can look past this outdated joke and be completely unfazed by it. It's literally just dark humour :rip:

You sound single. I hope I'm wrong, and you're just with a great and perfect lover.

Judging from this, you'd sound like you'd settle for anyone if they're breathing.

I really don't think anyone can be really outraged by that stupid joke

I don't think Taylor's super inlove with Travis if we just based on The Alchemy and SHS. She basically just saying  "Let's this give a chance although I'm not really into you" and "This just feels like high school again, just fun and nothing serious". It's different when we started getting songs from Joe. New Years Day, King of My Heart, CIWYW and Dress are already screaming "He's the One"

She probably gonna ditch him once the tour is over.

I do not watch that show, nor did I ever care enough about Taylor's outrage to look into it. I wasn't one of the people "going on about it" and, as I said in the very post you quoted, there was no need to police the writing there on her part..

Didn't you know? It's only misogynistic if Taylor is the subject of the joke.
